I imagine this question has been asked before, but will Oblivion play better on XBox360 or a 1-year old "gamer" PC?
Check the link I posted above, and see where your video card matches up.
To play at XBox360 levels, you'll need to have a decent processor, 1 GB of RAM, and a GeForce 7000 series or ATI X1000 series.
Imran, just ignore the whiners. These days, thanks to the Internet being so widespread and the forums so popular, there will be many people whining about any game, no matter what it is.
Oh, they don't bother me, I just thought it funny. EVERY game this happens. And when you point it out people get all mad and say how this one is worse than the rest.

Thanks, Imran. I'll run the test at home tonight. That thread didn't seem to talk about the XBox360, but I'll keep looking over there. Where is Asher, anyway? Slacker...

I'm fairly certain it will run well on your PC. Anyhow, even if you wanted to get a new video card, that would be cheaper than getting the 360.
No need to buy consoles .
I like consoles for certain games, like racing. Also, I much prefer giving my girls (7 years and 3 years old) a console to beat up rather than deleting my hard drive. I also like knowing that my XBox's hardware is locked in place until the next console arrives (much cheaper than the PC upgrade dance over the long run, in my view).
However, I will ALWAYS have a PC nearby for strategy games. Unless, that is, XBox gets serious about adding a keyboard, full Internet browsing, the ability to run Microsoft software (like Word, etc.). Of course, I don't see Microsoft doing that as long as chumps like me continue to buy a Windows PC *and* a Microsoft console.

The one reason why I like Oblivion for the PC is for user made mods, which will be far more prevalent on the PC. I've heard there were some really great ones for Morrowind (I believe I may have downloaded one or two). There is already some activity on the official forums (such as a mod disabling fast travel).

Yes, mods. Good point. I wonder, though, with 200 hours of possible game play whether or not I'll need mods? Well, if my PC is at least in the middle range, I'll hold off on an XBox 360.

Well most of the mods don't add gameplay, per se. They modify some aspect of the game. Like the one with fast travel. People thought that was taking the cheap way out (as do I, I only fast travel if I'm in that city and traveling to another part of the city). There is a request to disable fast travel until you actually get to the areas you can fast travel to (which is a great idea... how can you fast travel to cities you've never been to?). Hopefully they get that one done.

Isn't fast travel just an option, though? I don't plan to use it the first several days of play, but I most certainly will once I'm just running back for the 100th time for some little bit of armor or whatever I need to pick up. Same for horses: Don't ride them if you don't want!!!
I find it funny that here you have one of the most open-ended games ever and people want to mod out open endedness. For goodness sake, it's a single player game! It's not like we need mods so the thousands of us in a shared world are playing by the same rules.
My 2 cents.

Hey, some brilliant Morrowind mods were such that:
Made the monsters always challenging at any level
Let you run an economy - run a restaurant for profit, etc.
Let you order faction members around if you were the leader
Added buildings
Added quests
There were tons, and I mean tons, in each category...

Well they may realize they don't have so much willpower when actually in the game and want to mod it out to prevent an 'easy' out.
