  • Has anyone else found anything about how the Intergalactic Research Network helps?

IIRC the IRN (man, when I was young we just spelled out words ) makes it possible to combine the Research Labs of all your planets.
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
    Once again...

      • --**-- Alliance Dispatch --**--

I've just sent a message to Bic Biro (14 days inactive) and Grater (Blake, 13 days inactive). I asked them if they are still playing and if not or if I don't hear from them before Tuesday morning 9AM server time I'll kick them.

I plan to send the same message to Jamski and Tuberski next weekend. Both of them are inactive for 6 days now.

Okay thats what I thought but what does "combine the Research Labs of all your planets" mean? Does taht speed up research times without effecting the cost in any way or.......???

Go to the overview screen, pick the planet from the drop-down menu, click on Planet "ItsNameNow" (Atragon) and do what you have to do

In the overview screen for the planet you can click on the planet name (near the top of hte screen) and change the name there.

I think you don't have to build or upgrade Labs on your colonies to build things there. But I'm not sure...

It combines one other research lab per IRN level (it begins with the biggest).

                    I think so.

Here's an example on how I envision the IRN works:

Your lab on your home planet is level 10
Your biggest lab in the colonies is lvl 7
You have one level of IRN

Your research is as fast as the level of the two labs combined, i.e you research as quickly as if you had a lvl 17 lab.

I didn't test for myself, but that's how I understand it.

                    • The Intergalactic Research network ties research on two planets, increasing research time. It will pick the two highest reserach facilities.
For each next level, another planet is added.

Given the pre/req´s, building the damned thing is a long way... (Hyperspace tech 8 and Lab 10)

To answer Sparrowhawk: I may have exegerated a bit, but I discard the Ion and Laser techs (who appear of little use, I have 4 and 6 respectively)

The armour-shield-weapon techs are still realatively cheap, but have limited use IMO. (7-6-6 respectively)

The only meaningfull techs are the Hyperspace tech and - engine, Computer Tech and perhaps Espionage. I have those at 6, 4, 9 and 7 respectively.

Impulse is at 5, which will increase once I have my Interplanetary missiles online

                      • Scientists from your planets can communicate via this network with each other.
With each level researched one of your research lab being on the highest level of the non-linked labs is added to the network. Their levels are being added when network is established.
Each linked research lab needs the required level for the planned research to join into the networked research. Levels of all research labs taking part are being added together.

This makes absolutely no sense to me

Your research labs on all your planets now stack, in terms of how fast research is completed.

With each level researched one of your research lab being on the highest level of the non-linked labs is added to the network. Their levels are being added when network is established.

With each level of the tech you research, one of your highest-level labs on another colony is added to your main lab, and contributes to researching things faster.

Each linked research lab needs the required level for the planned research to join into the networked research. Levels of all research labs taking part are being added together.

If you are researching a tech that requires a certain level of research lab, labs that are under that level cannot be added this way.

                            It´s very cryptic indeed.

It basically says that if you want to research a tech that needs a level 7 Lab, you still need the level 7 Lab, and having seven level 1 Lab´s linked through the network will give you zilch.

In fact, it means that the network has only very limited use...

                            • From http://www.ogametips.com/24/research-labs :

With IRN, it’s best to start building labs on every planets after the first lab reaches lvl 10 (or 12), since it’d cost less (res and time) to have 2 lvl 10 labs + IRN lvl 1 than a lvl 20 lab.
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards

                              • I've got espionage level 9. Yeah, try and probe me now!

With IRN level 0, only your biggest lab is counted for research speed.
With IRN level 1, you combine the two biggest labs (11 + 9 = equivalent to a level 20 lab)

IRN researched to level 9 or above is meaningless as you only have 8 colonies.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
