              Well he sprobably saw my alliance tag and thought WTF, I'm already in deep with these guys.

              He only raided one of my fledgling colonies and hauled about 5K worth of stuff off. I'm getting it back with interest in about an hour.

              I did lose all 10 of my probes on the 4:442:10 planet though...ouch, and I've queue up a few more ships just to make sure he doesn't do it again.

                Yeah, I've done that before.

                I've just sent out 4 heavies, a light, and 2 large cargoes to help myself to a planet defended by 6 missile launchers. Speedsim fancies my chances, but what do you guys think?
                By the way, when you put the tech levels in on the right hand side of the Speedsim screen, the engine techs are yours, right? [/noob, but worth asking]

                    Im currently using 9 spy probes to ship 40 D to my colony every 2 minutes, for the cost of 5D each time.

                    its just enough to help pay for the robotic factory 2 then the shipyard

                      Is that really worth it?

                      Why not just reassign a small cargo, or even build a new one? When you're transporting stuff, you actually get to choose what to carry, unlike raiding, when you can't tell it to fill up on deuterium or crystal first, then fill the rest up with metal.

                        because it would take an hour or more this takes a minute....I only need a little D to top up the colony so I can get the factory built. If I had an even larger fleet of probes I could really shift resources fast to where they need to be

                          I know that I am nervous about this being an open forum, so maybe I will ask your opinion rah....Do you think Mark and Dan would consider a private forum for this game so that we could discuss strategy and specifics and leave this thread in Other Games to recruit new players and discuss game mechanics?

                          Right now we are leaving ourselves open to anyone reading this thread and while I believe the Apolytoner's are honourable, who can say who reads this?

                          A private forum would be ideal to share confidential alliance information .

                          The reason I ask you is that your support (or even better yet if you made the recommendation) would likely be critical in getting MarkG or Dan to agree.

                          The game is young yet and has quickly filled two threads, I only see that increasing in the future.

                            I doubt that the appeal will last forever, and we're not overly worried about posting locations here because we have the strength of numbers (and length of memory) to be able to bring the pwnage to anyone trying to make a quick buck from our planets. I always try to avoid attacking planets whose owners are part of an alliance, because I know the comeback would be erm, interesting.
                            Unless we can get some 'poly members from Firaxis posting here, then I doubt Mark or Dan will consider it connected to Civ closely enough to give it a private forum. We could always set our own up, and send the password details on an in-game message if you're worried about your details being on view. Besides, if you get attacked, then the alliance will stand up for you! Some of those with more resources (Skanky et al) may well be able to repay the favour to whoever has attacked you, while those of us mid-table or at the start would be able to help you by replacing some of the resources taken during the attack. Not to mention getting you to fleet-save before the attack even arrives.

                              You be right about the costs of hyperpace engines level 4. Two days of solid raiding ought to get me there.

                              Hyperspace engines actually allow to enter hyperspace through a hyperspace window in order to massively shorten traveltime. Hyperspace is an alternative space with more then 3 dimensions.
