Please explain - I do all my scouting with the galaxy screen. This does have unexpected bonuses - like when I accidentally put the galaxy as 1 instead of 2 (mine), and ended up with a couple of tasty cows.
I'm now reduced to searching other galaxies with solar systems near to mine in numbers, in the hope of lassoing me a new cow!

    • Thanks for the shipment, duke. It's enough to get me that 6th level of combustion engine - large cargo and recyclers!
      Lime roots and treachery!

      • The large cargoes will be very useful!
I'm only up to level 6 combustion mind, because I always have something else more important to do whenever I have that number of crystals available.

        • the point about planetary defence is not necessarily to win battles, but to make attacking you prohibitively expensive. if it's going to cost someone 100k res to take 50k off you, they're going to find another target.

In the left menu, below the statistics.
It's usefull to check out the strength of a player, or the alliance he belongs too. It does show the location of his main planet, which can be nice as well: Hit the suckers where it (usually) hurts most

Well, if they will hit you with 50-200 battleships, with perhaps weapon levels of 10 or so, your defenses can be completely useless.

I had 40 missiles, 20 Light lasers and 8 ion, and the 48 battleships weren't even scratched.
I lost 10 missiles, 6 Lasers and 3 ion cannons though (that's after repair obviously)

edit: I have now completely shifted to Fleetsaving. I do carry modest defenses on my planets so I'm not a complete sitting duck, but I find an extra investment in Large Cargo's in permanent orbit well worth the money.
Offcourse I need to keep one fleetslot open at all times, but that can still be used for espionage missions.

              • I agree, fleetsaving seems the way to go. Which is a pain, because now I have to plan what time to get back on the computer.

                • well yes of course, if he's got 200 battleships, then your 30 missle launchers ain't gonna do much but it does at least put off players out to nick a few k of cheap resources.

I know we talked on the Nascar thread about our adictions to this game but I didn't realize it had gotten this bad Spaced

I had a thought about saving your resources....

If you start to build something and later cancel it, do your resources return or are they used up? Because if you get them back, couldn't you start something (say research) that will take longer to complete than the time you are going to be offline, and when you come online cancel it, get the resources back instantly?
(I realize this would only use up part of your resources and you would have to have enough to start it to begin with, but would this work??).

It seems safer to me than transporting your goods back and forth between colonies and simpler too.

I am currently working on my second colony ship (should have enough in a couple hours). Still not sure if it is smarter to put the next colony in another galaxy or a system close by, or even on another planet in my home system.

I would like to hear Skanky and Germanos (and others) opinions on debris fields. You both were attacked and your defenses destroyed yet you are both online regularly and presumably didn't have too much stockpiled. Therefore, do you think you were attacked for your resources or for the debris field that would be created? (I read somewhere that people don't raid so much for the resource as they do for the debris field which if you get a large enough defense can be quite large, there is even a strategy I read involving espionage probes to allow you to time your recyclers). Perhaps sometimes a large defense is an invitation for attack? (If that makes sense you understand the point of my question ).

                            /me

                            Edit: Germanos is back

I look forward to future discussions about how we can improve the alliance productivity.

It occurs to me that in my scans I now see green planets (noob's to me) that perhaps lesser players can scan.

I would like to see 4 lists (1 for each galaxy in universe 8), quoted and updated by whomever is currently doing scans with a listing of (i) and (iI)'s that way anyone can scan and attack from those lists).

You do get them back, yeah.
Yeah, this is a more basic version of fleet-saving, but with the danger that you can't really do it overnight, because whatever you were building will be completed by the time you returned to the game.

I imagine that they were either attacked for fun (my reason - see Spaced above ), or because they were getting to be a threat to the others in their locale.

In the Galaxy screen you sometimes see a T next to the planet's number. If you hover over it with your cursor it will show you how many resources it contains. If it is a lot, just send enough Recyclers on a harvesting mission. Beware, they are slow, so chances are someone is going to beat you to it.
