Chapter 8 – The smurfew


That afternoon Smurfs gathered to vote again, shortly before the curfew.

“After the vote I have something very important to tell you”, Smurfette whispered to Poet Smurf.
“OK. Let’s meet at your place”, Poet replied.
“Not at my place. That’s too conspicuous. Let’s meet at yours.”
“Fine.”

“We have reached a nearly unanimous decision that Grandpa Smurf was the culprit”, Brainy Smurf announced the results of the vote. “Will you do the honours of drinking your own mixture?”
“You got this all wrong. I’m not the mafia. You condemned me simply because I know about herbs and poisons. But remember, the missing stuff is the key. Who can easily gain access to Papa Smurf’s lab? When you answer to that question you will have discovered the killer.”
These were Grandpa Smurf’s final words, but few people did understand them.

And that night was the first night of the newly established curfew. But will this new regime prevent the insidious killer from striking again?

A cloaked silhouette was sneaking through the streets of the Smurf village. The shadowy figure took cover behind one of the empty houses when the patrol approached. The patrol consisted of Handy, commander of the Guard and his loyal soldiers Snappy and Slouchy.

They moved away and the cloaked figure continued its stealthy approach toward Poet Smurf’s house. The shadowy character knocked three times and Poet opened up and let the visitor in. It was Smurfette.

“Are the patrols frequent”, Poet Smurf asked.
“Neither frequent nor thorough”, Smurfette replied. “They patrol the village once every hour.”

This was the first meeting of a resistance movement against Brainy Smurf’s tyrannical rule. Besides Smurfette and Poet Smurf, Clumsy Smurf and Azrael were present.

The resistance activists discussed the situation for a short while and decided to try to oppose Brainy Smurf in the open forum tomorrow, particularly if another murder happened as they feared it would. In the meeting, noticing Azrael’s meowing, they remembered that he was under some kind of spell and that they had promised to help him, so they decided that they would first initiate that subject in the forum tomorrow, and then accuse Brainy Smurf of incompetence.

The secret meeting lasted for about 30 minutes. They couldn’t have risked a patrol noticing the candlelight and knocking on the door to investigate. They all departed in the span of 15 minutes, one by one every 4-5 minutes.

The next morning Handy was wondering where Snappy might be. He found him in the provisional army barracks dead of poisoning. Apparently, Snappy had eaten a poisoned cake last night.

Just to keep things moving, I will take the chance of voting first.....though not much of a chance as I am voting for Brainy/DrSpike (and apparently I am in the resistance against him, so it is only natural ).

Smurfette. I still suspect Slouchy, but the sleep clues seem to have died out recently. And Smurfette, as Papa's wife (I assume), would have had access to his lab.

Jaguar, I respond once in this thread since ljube went missing saying i was bored at the pace of this game and that points to me And Civman i am not married to papa smurf. so that would mean every one in the village has the same amount of access. I havent read the update story since i just got home from work. Ill read and then vote

Sorry my bad i did say i didnt read all the way up i saw the bored face which i put in ysterday assumed he was talking to me. After a 13 hour shift at work with 10 more hours of call ahead of me i think i might deserve a pardon
No sparrow no guilty conscience here just an exhausted assumption for not taking time to read the whole conversation before i spoke
Now after reading it cant be me i was in a secret meeting with a couple other smurfs.
