The next morning, my dutiful droid reported back to me on Anakin, after I had assigned him to watch over my padawan, fearful of an assassination attempt. Instead, I am thankful for my caution, for it has brought valuable information. When Chancellor Palpatine requested Anakin to serve as his representative on the Council, even though Anakin is not yet a Jedi Master, I was very suspicious of his motives. I certainly never expected something like this. If my eyes are to be believed, Chancellor Palpatine is the Sith Lord we have all been searching for, and not only that, he has managed to turn Anakin.
R4 projected the images of a weary and disillusioned Anakin, shocked at the death of one Jedi master at the hands of the others, without even a majority in agreement. He sat in a lounge outside of his quarters, staring off into space, when Palpatine approached. Palpatine simply asked him if he had learned anything new from the council, to which Anakin replied, "only that they seem mere men, rather than the Knights they are supposed to be." Then Palpatine insinuated, that it is because they fear you and your power, that they hold you back, not because they have greater demands to place upon you, but that they mean to crush your spirit. To which Anakin admitted, "They could not have meant to do better than this crisis has provoked. I see no honour among the Jedi, except perhaps in my own Master, and even he cannot atone for all the sins of the Council." After which Palpatine left, with one word, "Excellent."
I left my R4 unit, only to find a frantic Serra Keto rushing down the halls. She had only the terrible news, that yet another of the council had been sliced by a lightsaber, in very precise and regular cuts. Shaak Ti had been found, without having drawn her own saber.
