Didn't really do anything super spectacular with teh region. I hope I can quickly get my residentials at least up to medium density so I can really get some use of that rail network...
Ladies and gentlemen, we have entered our first Commercial Boom Cycle!
Upon taking office for this five years, it was noticed that the city was running a $1,800 surplus.
Immediately, a loan of $150,000 was taken out.
Within a year, a number of regional firsts had been achieved in Thousand Elms, just west of Foodvale, including:
- The Elmwood School of Nerds - while we only have a hundred or so nerds enrolled now, this university is projected to fuel future high tech and office booms. Supplementing it are a full range of schools, libraries, and museums.
- The new Subway, inspired by monorail engineers at a bar, who realized that by making the beer taps just a little bit wider, it was possible to send whole cans down the pipe.
Additionally, almost 10,000 commercial jobs were added with no increase in the residential population.

Demand for R$ plummeted to near rock bottom. Not exactly a good thing when R$ sims form the majority of your tax base. But CS$ was sky-high, so we encouraged development of new business in the city. And much of that demand was fufilled. Also, some offices moved in as well, and with them came a few middle and high-wealth residentials. Hopefully future development in these sectors will increase the tax base.
In the future, the city looks to destroy the dirty Industrial facilities (demand for which has gone downhill greatly) and have that land redeveloped with manufacturing and high-tech uses.
Hmm, looks like you got a lot of C$ also.... Don't worry, that R$ demand is going to come back with a vengeance in the next 5.

Well... I was hoping that my city would eventually become playground of the rich, and let the working-class live under the smokestacks of Tartarus, but I guess some developement is better than none at all.
First five: I-Dirty boom
Next five: R$ boom
Third five: C$ boom
What happens next depends on what you zone, how your education is, tax levels, what everyone else does, etc.
Potential outcomes based on last game:
Epwood style:
4th five: R$$ boom
5th five: C-Office boom
6th five: R$$$ boom
East Central style:
4th five: huge R$ boom
5th five: I-HT boom
6th five: R$$ boom
Frey Bentos style:
4th five: small R$$$ boom
5th five: C-$$$ boom
6th five: more R$$$
The key is in what kind of zoning gets laid down, I think. Low density zones will build mansions, medium density zones townhouses, and high density zones projects.

Transcript from the first bi-decade Ohnoes town meeting.
*Imperial Deathmarch Music is blaring from speakers*
*Dictator Blake enters the meeting hall*
Dictator: "Whaat!! Turn that stupid music off!"
Dictator: "Welcome to the first bi-decade Ohnoes town meeting!"
Random Person: "What happened to the '05 meeting??"
Dictator: "I... I don't want to talk about it. There was no '05 meeting! Next question!"
Bob Newbie: "You say it never happened!? That was the last night I saw my wi.."
Dictator: "WAIT! SILENCE! This isn't question time! Wait! This isn't even a meeting! I'm here to DICTATE what you will do!"
Dictator: "First on the Agenda! Educational Streamlining!"
"The Elementary Schools at Sleepy Hollow and that-place-we-havn't-named shall be bulldozed, new Larger Elementary Schools shall be built, one at Highplace Shopping Center. Another at that place we-really-should-name!"
"This will provide superier indoc.. educational coverage!"
Teacher: "What about busses!?"
Dictator: "What about busses?"
Dictator: "Next on the Agenda! Toll Cheats!"
"I have heard reports of sims leaping to their death from Last Chance Cliff in Elmwood to evade tolls."
"Commandos shall be sent up... down... around... the river to toll jumpers!"
Toll Cheat: "Oh no!" *runs out of hall*
Dictator: "Next we have.. ah! This is a good one. Taking the name of our city in vain!"
"Henceforth, anyone saying Oh no! shall be puplically stoned!"
*Two burly security guards step into the hall and stand ominously near the back, arms folded*
Dictator: "Now for the most important item on the Agenda. MONORAIL!"
Crowd: *gasp*
Bob Newibe: "Oh no!" *the ominous security guards sieze Bob and drag him outside*
Dictator: "As you have all no doubt noticed, malcontents from Elmwood have built a Monorail across the border, into our city."
"Clearly it is their intent, and that of other Mayors in the region, to drive our economy down to their level via monorail upkeep costs!"
"We all know that monrorail is good for one thing, and one thing only!"
Dr Vu: "Tying dasmels to the track!"
Dictator: "Wha... no you clown! ...unless their from silicon beach"
"The purpose of Monorail is moving prosperous sims quickly and in comfort!"
Dictator: "We'll show those other mayors!"
"You will build a monorail!"
"You will ride the monorail!"
"And you will LIKE IT!"
~~~
At first I thought monorail was silly, but now I've figured out how it works (R$ sims refuse to ride it) I ought to be able to make a pretty neat and effective monorail service. It might even be better than not having a monorail service! Also the monorail service will largely provide an alternative to the ruthless tolling.
If nobody minds, i'll be taking lot 12, next to Atragon and Snoopy369.
My goal this game will be to build the Resort Hotel...or whatever it was called.
<Kassiopeia> you don't keep the virgins in your lair at a sodomising distance from your beasts or male prisoners. If you devirginised them yourself, though, that's another story. If they devirginised each other, then, I hope you had that webcam running. Play Bumps!No, wait, play Slings!
Unlike certain players (and each to their own!) I have decided to expand somewhat gradually over the map, taking time with each new piece of zone. I got a bit carried away with the taking time bit for some of it! Anyway, two new industrial parks and that huge ass commercial district now grace my city. And places like have names, how disturbing!
I'm always trying to improve my game, make my cities look better and stuff. Here I pre-terraced to avoid those nasty walls under lots thing. You'ill also notice the rail tunnels, so I can like build on top of them and stuff.
The new commercial district, serviced entirely by monorail plus busses that run on streets. I'm playing around with non-grid based street layouts, which actually makes the area look more residential than commercial. Oh well. Conform my city doth not!
Still not much to look at, i had some improvement in my small downtown area, which is purposefully small to have consistantly high demand.
I may stick with medium densities and continue to convert to mostly manufacturing and some high-tech industry. I may also need a small subway in the next few years.
I'd like to settle on lot 17. I just need Lemmy to get me sorted on the procedure. Expect interesting results since I have played very little SC4 (but lots of SC, SC2k and some SC3k).
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!
