    • But demand for a map editor is getting more and more vocal on the boards and play balance is still a bit off.
the map editor is what MADE HoMMIII... I don't see why they don't seem to understand that.

      • The ability to make maps is why Homm2 and 3 lasted.

        • Indeed. I just spent 20 hours playing through "To Kill for Power"... amazing map and amazing story.

Do you still play any of the old maps, vmxa?

'Tis a pity that astralwizard.com and a lot of the other classic sites have gone down so that others don't have a chance to enjoy the best.

          • You'd think developers would want to give others the tools to increase their games' longevity. Unless they are scared that amateur efforts will show them up...........

            • Ah, but they also need to sell the expansion.

              • Well the best strategy is to put the best of the amateur efforts in it and claim it as your own work. Not that companies would do that....................

                • Yes I still fire up Homm2 and III and believe it or not once in a while IV.

I loaded a few hundred Homm2 maps from Asrtal and put them in a few folders by size.

I finally played all of them. I loaded almost as many for III from a number of sites. I have a few of those left to finish. They are all XL map though.

Last I looked you could still see new maps for IV. I don't have 5 right now, but will get it eventually.

I played the demo for a while and I'd just like to say that I agree with your analysis, 100%. This is not a game to spend your money on, developers don't deserve to earn anything.

gotcha. Which is your favorite H3 map?

Do you usually prefer the story ones or the battle maps?

                      -
After much pain and suffering I finally beat Legend of Qun Jin I, but that's about the most difficult battle map I've ever accomplished.

Apparently amazing- but horrendously difficult maps like Angellic Pride and A Time of Testing are far too difficult for my level of expertise.

What would you say is the most difficult of the H3 maps that you've played?

                      • Atlantia Neo Tales was crazy as I recall. Some traps right near your start that could not be survived with 100 archangels.

The only reason I knew the name is I have xls of all the maps I have played. I had to do that to prevent loading down maps I already had.

Many of the maps were setup at the highest levels and very difficult. Eternal Love was another I show as only 35% finished. Not sure if I did not like it or it was too tough. It was an impossible levl XL SoD map.

It looks like the only ones I have played since Jan 2005 is a link map of 10 maps. I finished that this year.

I do not list Angellic Pride, but I do see ToT was skipped, so it must not have been pleasant.

                        • Well, Time of Testing had a great storyline, and a beautiful design... but it was difficult and long as heck. I lost too many units early in the game and found it impossible to advance... after sinking about 14+ hours into it, so I finally gave it up.

                          Re: Link map?
Are you referring to a campaign that was strung together? I must admit to be slightly baffled by your statement there.

Can't say I've ever heard of Eternal Love or Atlantia Neo Tales- but considering how you say that they're amazingly difficult, I should probably steer clear of them.

On a related topic- did you ever play "The Pen and the Sword"? I love that map even though I have yet to beat it despite three restarts. Despite that... It's excellently plotted and designed!

                          Thanks a bunch,

                            • Yes it was a campaign called Rebel iirc. I finished it in Feb, so I am due to fire up another. The thing is I only have large and xl maps left.

I do not see The Pen and The Sword in my list. Wait I just look in my xl folder and it is there, so I have it. After my turn in a massive SG this week I will take a look at it.

I have been avoiding those xl maps as they take so much work.

                              • I finished the Pen and the Sword. It was a fun map for me as you were able to build up to a high level.

Eiluned was the main one. I got her expert Diplo quickly and was able to get a lot of monster to join her. I had to wait at one point to get her spell points built up, she had a mana orb to help.

Eventually (7 months and something) I found Athenaen Tower and got Portal. She was an expert Earth by then and I send her around and loaded up on Tress and top monsters.

She had a stack of archangles, gold dragons and Arch devils to rip anyone.

Since no one could get border passes or nearly no one, I only had the gate to deal with. I used Bruce to guard that area.
