I always find it funny, when people speak about realism in this kind of a game. Where exactly are orcs, tauren or night elves rooted in reality?

Im not sure what Baruk Khazad is , but if they speak Judeo-Dwarvish, that would be "blessed are the dwarves" - lord of the mark

      • I think he means EQII has the potential to be better than WoW but is actually worse... I think...

I'm of the opinion that the whole game looks like ass. It's amazing to me the sysreqs required to run it.

Their art team is pretty bland overall, the color palettes are all dull and repetitive (look at the great environment in that screenshot, for examples). Something's wrong with the fonts. There's grammar annoyances "YOUR blah does 40 damage to a lame goul," when it should be "Your blah does 40 damage to A Lame Goul."

Someone ought to teach the EQ2 devs about proper nouns.

            • It is a rather bad screenshot, taken with poor graphics settings. I am not surprised, that Asher has chosen it.

Here are some pictures I shot myself on my 1 year old computer (3GHz, 1GB, GeForce 6600). Graphics settings are like I play, not artifically improved. I had to clip it to match Apolytons 600 pixel wide limitation. I play at 1600 x 1200, lagfree.

                • Finally, a water scenery. This one is scaled down about twice, to get a bit more width.

                  • I forgot how bad the graphics where in EQ2.

As I said once before, it looks like something made in Bryce 3D by some xena fan.

                        • World of Warcraft acomplishes what it tries to quite nicely and it all fits within the Warcraft setting (which isn't very serious to begin with). I have to say it works alot better in game than you might think from screenshots, too - I really hated the graphics in it aswell, untill I played the Beta. ( Maybe that's true of EQ2 aswell, but I'm guessing not)

But the graphics in EQ2 are sterile, over done, and sometimes inconsistent.

I agree, even in the "good" screenshots SR posted, they look terrible.

The water especially -- the game was clearly made by and for people who try to escape reality (hence the more "realistic" graphics), but failing miserably since the people who make and play the game don't know what it's like outside.

That water looks so fake it's not even funny.

Another example in that water pic -- notice how the shoreline is a perfectly straight line? How often do you see that in real life...

The problem is EQ2 is a fantasy game that tries to have realistic graphics. It's easy to pick faults in that, since they look anything but realistic.

EQ2 and WoW are fantasy games, having eccentric graphics is part of the charm. WoW oozes with style, EQ2 oozes with blandness.

                            • who cares about graphics. The question is the gameplay fun.

                              • The single best feature of WoW over EQ2: Booze.

                                Even better after the patch.

The stages go "tipsy" -> "drunk" -> "completely smashed".

                                The more drunk you are, the lower the levels appear to be on mobs around you;

It also makes your vision all blurry and "smudgey" with movement, and your movement pattern is staggered.

It even modifies your text, adding ".. hic" randomly, slurring your words (ie, "so" becomes "sho"), etc.
