Each influence "laurel wreath" is another -10% unrest. Family members = ultimate unrest quenchers.

Send them on tour. They pick up habits and retinue depending what they DO and where they are STATIONED and what buildings are there.

Temple of Jupiter gives some GREAT leader bonuses. And the priest you can pick up is one of the best retinue members.

That's part of the learning process. With time, you will learn how to win.
And an army that has been in a tough battle has to return to a good city to retrain. In the meantime, another army has to releave it on the front. I tend to have 4-6 large armies.
Are you aware that you may merge wounded units?
If 2 units of 80 are reduced to 60 and 55 after a battle, you may drag&drop one on the other, leaving you with 1 unit of 80 and one of 35.
Withdraw the one of 35 to your city and leave the one of 80 on the front.
Have a few reserve units behind your army for immediate reinforcement.
The units in my armies are almost always full strength.

You also need a good navy. I tried to complete the senate missions to blockade some ports. Sometimes it worked, but quite often there were 700 man enemy fleets stopping me.
Try to select senate missions more carefully. Look at the rewards and the consequences. What you gain, what you lose.
Do you gain a unit? Money? An ennemy?
As Julii, I don't fulfill any the missions against Greece. I might fullfill some against Carthage. I do not build a real fleet before Gaul & Spain are mine, so I don't want Greece (big powerfull fleet) to be my ennemy.

Oh, and btw, the army of 12 in Spain I was talking about was not an 'front' army, it was an occupation army. No ennemies nearby, only conquered provinces.
Front armies are of course bigger.

                Oldest leader ?

This guy actually croaked at the ripe old age of 80!!

I took this pic after Id just stripped most of his retinue out to the younger family members when he was 78.

Its good that you can do this as you lose all the retinue when the leaders die.

I think this is the oldest faction leader ive had to date, seen a few in their 70's but only this one has made 80. has anyone had a leader live longer than 80 ?

I only play perhaps 25% of the battles manually. It would take to much time if I did. And the AI sometimes lose, at least when the numbers are equal.

Are you aware that you may merge wounded units?
I found that out last night. It's very useful after the army reform, when I can no longer retrain obsolete units. Now I just merge them and use them until there are none of them left.

Is there a way to keep playing after winning the game? It thought I saw something about that in a forum on the TW site, but now I can't find it.
I never wanted to before, but I 'accidently' won by taking out the last Thracian province, which was more like cleaning up loose ends. I was about to face the Scipii near Thapsus in what promised to be the coolest battle I'd faced yet in RTW. Both myself and the Scipii had EVERYTHING: urban militia, arcani, excellent generals--all top rank units, and plenty of reinforcements.
I was really looking forward to it, and hadn't paid attention to how many provinces I'd taken (I was also at war with Britons and hap-hazardly taking and losing and retaking and relosing the same 2 provinces).
I have a save at the end of the previous turn, and an autosave from that final turn. I could just reload the save and do the Scipii battle, but I want to keep going after that and take on Egypt.
This is the first game I've had with sauch a wide assortment of best units and I'd like to see what they can do.
So, anyway around victory/game over "movie" so I can keep on playing?

Press Esc? Ctrl+Esc, Ctrl+Enter maybe? I distinctly recall that it was a key combination.

Hmmm, that seems to ring a bell. I think I'll get off here and play around with it for a while. If I figure it out, I'll post it, in case anybody else wants to know. Thanks.
