  • Mastur....... D&D

I got my first 20 sided dice yesterday and am eager to play, only problem is no one I know is really willing to try it out. The kids on the box and the stories of how it will morph you into a geek are most likely whats making them weary of it. So I read the rule book, not the full version unfortunatly the basic version, and it gives you a method to randomly create monsters treasures and whathaveyous so you can play all by your lonesome. So I created my first character and sat down to play, killed my first monster and ran into a problem, how much XP do I give myself?

and does there exist by any chance a copy of the full rule book on the web? So I might advance beyond level 2, and buy more than the most basic equipment?

I doubt there is one that is both free and legal...

umm, you mostly just make it up

I know that the situations in the books are very limited and to go to a more complicated encounter you have to use advanced math

If you'd rather, uh, play with others... I know that Arnelos was running a game over at MZO. I've been running a more unorthodox game on Eventis (complete with graphics ). When the Event starts working properly again, I'm sure we can find an excuse to add you into the campaign...

You actually do worthwhile things at eventis now? I might have to look at it again.

That gives a poor picture of D&D, what you're looking at, with dungeons and treasure charts- an unfortunately accurate one for some groups, but not the best kind.

The advantage of face-to-face roleplaying is that you can do things OTHER than trawl dungeons for treausre, something you can do in any Diablo clone. You get to, you know, have plots and all, and have characters, motivations, do things that have no rules attached to them and make up what happens on the spot...

Sadly, that probably will require some other people with experience in that style of role-playing to do. My recommendation: if you must do solo, stick to computer games. If you want to play an RPG, stop by your local gaming shop and post an ad on their bulletin board- you'll probably get the desperate power players first, but they might know of a good game somewhere else.

Therefore this is not a syllogism.

Yeah that's my problem growing up. I always have wanted to play those stuff but couldn't find likeminded fellows to join me. Trust me it was not easy being the only geek around.

So I kept myself busy with solo rpgs. There are several out there that's not so bad. My personal favorites are JH Brennan's series starring Fire*Wolf and his talking doomsword (or was it demonsword?). I also loved his Grailquest series. But if I had to pick only one, I'd immediately nominate Joe Dever's Lone Wolf series. I was depressed when American bookstores stopped selling his books.

The D&D-system sucks as real RPG. Imagination and good friends are the best system, even with the D&D-system. I don't have any geeks around either nowadays myself. A bit sad when I think about it really.

But you can't live with just a d20. You'll just have to have a couple of d10s, at least one each of the d8s and d4s and scores of d6s and....
