Er, um. POTM has recently discovered that the RP game she and her friends have put together and run for close to two years now, is actually a "LARP" Shes even discovered the LARPAnet website and occasionally posts there. We had a little family dispute, where it seemed like she was inviting folks there to join her game, and QOTM flew off the handle (cause some of the parents of the current members, who are also OUR friends, are NOT completely RP friendly, and barely tolerate this activity, and think its weird, and if they find POTM has invited STRANGERS, and you know, WEIRD strangers, they will not only make their kids not participate, but will see POTM as you know, WEIRD) so this has created some stress - WE at least, acknowledge how wonderfully creative and entrepreneurial POTM has been with this. Personally im hoping that when she starts HS at the local geek heaven, she will find kids interested in this sort of thing. Since that will be more seperate from our social circle, that should be easier.

I always knew RPers were weird - glad to see POTM's friends' parents confirm this.

        DrSpike,

Of course roleplayers are "odd"... but they're
No more odd than people who memorize football or sports statistics and can quote them off the top of their heads.

Nor are they odder than people who spend their entire days playing computer games. In fact, as mentioned before, they're a lot more social than mere "l33t" gamers.

LARPers are generally weird.. especially the 'Vampire' ones.

Not to say that some can't be cool, but there are some of the stranger denizens of this earth who frequent the LARP and RP worlds..

(while I was playing a Vampire or a Vampire Hunter, it was all just chasing eachother arround, no real 'role'playing)

See, even LARPers think LARPers are weird.

                      Whats a LARP? something...roleplayer(LA - LosAngeles?)

I was lucky and had the best of both worlds - a sports fanatic(team captain etc)at school with girlfriends AND on my lunchtimes/odd weekend an rpger

                      LARP sounds nasty....like a disease(*cough* "I've got LARP")?

The LA stands for "Live Action." It may as well be a disease.

I don't think it's creepy at all when someone the Princess's age is a LARPer. That's just a sign that she has an active imagination and really isn't much different from any other kind of play-acting. It's like playing with dolls or playing cops and robbers or something. If you don't grow out of it eventually, however, it definitely becomes creepy.

                            Ahhh - D&D!

                            Brings back memories.

Started playing D&D, then moved to MERP, then to RoleMaster.

Still have a sqillion dollars worth of Role Master stuff kicking around somewhere...........

And I never was a geek - honestly!
I don't know why he saved my life. Maybe in those last moments he loved life more than he ever had before. Not just his life - anybody's life, my life. All he'd wanted were the same answers the rest of us want. Where did I come from? Where am I going? How long have I got? All I could do was sit there and watch him die.

well, honestly the SCA people (respectable) are a type of larping.. (I think)

it is much more respectable for someone PotM age..

I think it is mostly just the 'vampire' people who get really weird
