  • dummy me. I acccidently hit quicksave when I meant to hit quickload

I saved right in a real heard fight with 2 of those guys who have some kind of fiery attack (haven't figured out what that is). I couldn't get out of that situation without taking massive damage. So I had to reload from a previous safe about 10 minutes back.

I would truelly be suckin' if there were limited saves in this game

    • The game is so difficult on Marine that I have to replay a lot of sections just to get through them with less damage. I know I couldn't get very far if the game were structured like Far Cry.

If this is your first time through, let me tell you that you haven't seen anything yet. The CPU level is a real nightmare.

      • Hmmm... I guess a lot of it just depends on how good you are at shooters. I blazed through on Veteran with no problems at all. I was gonna try Nightmare until I realized it's just some stupid gimmick where your health constantly counts down to 25. I like to take my time and look for secrets, and playing Nightmare would just be like playing at 25 health. What's the point really? To say I did it... who cares.

Diss, here are a couple tips that might help. The guys with the fiery attack (imps) are very easy to take out if you dodge the fireball. Just move left or right just when they shoot, and the fireball should miss completely. As for the guys with guns, the best way to beat them is to shoot them first. If you can't, try running away until they're forced to chase you around a corner and gun them down. Either way, it's best to take them out from a distance, because their accuracy goes way down. Also don't forget that Mouse3 zooms a little (I bound mine to Mouse2 just cause it was easier). Finally, the sprint button is your best friend. I held it down for almost the whole game. You move 50% faster at least and you get a lot of stamina.

        • In MP you can turn the damn always run mode on. You should be able to that in SP too. I dont care if it consumes stamina. It goes down so little anyway.

          Diss:

Take zombies out with flashlights. Take the zombie with guns with pistols. Take imps out with shotguns. If you stick to that, no one will have an opportunity to really hurt you.

For most zombies with guns on first level, theyre placed around so you can take cover and exchange pistol fires. Or you can shoot them first before theyre supposed to "scare" you if you already expect them.

          • Marine was easy. Veteran is fine.

Limited saves suck . I want to save whenever I want to - for the added difficulty, I just CHOOSE not to save every so often.

            • what is the option to sprint? I forgot that one.

I often just start playing these games without learning all the commands.

and there are no time limits right? I like taking my time exploring and finding the special stashes (kind of necessary sometimes if I get low on health)

now I juse need to find my way out . I'm so used to relying on maps in rpg's. not having a map is difficult.

              • I found mapping spring to the right mouse button was quite helpful. I could basically just keep my finger down the whole time, and not have worry about any uncalled for finger stretching

                • I finally found my way out. I had missed a turn earlier and didn't see it on the way back.

I'm now in alpa sector section 1. I need to take a break. all the frantic action tires me out . actually my eyes need a break.

It's a pretty cool game. Anything interesting on multiplayer? I may mess around with that after I'm done with the single player campaign.

I'm doing alright I guess. I'm playing recruit difficulty . So nothing is too bad. I seem to be finding enough ammo and health/armour. Although occasionally I run a little low on ammo and my health gets down to around 60. I haven't actually ran out of ammo for my assault rifle in a while. But I have gotten down to my last clip. I like the shotgun though- that's a cool weapon. But sometimes it's a little too slow for enemies that shoot back at you. So I've been sticking with the assault rifle almost exclusively. I should switch weapons when battling zombies with melee attack. I have switched to the pistol a few times. But I'm too lazy to switch most of the time . Actually I rarely see zombies with melee attack anymore.

And what the hell are those big creatures. One of them broke through the glass window. They are kind of scary when they are up close.

I do what I used to do with quake1 and free mouse look:

bind the key I went held down on as 'enter' key, place a heavy object over the numkeypad's enter.

i havent had any stamina problems yet.

                    • Diss you dont have any ammo troubles anymore but if ur daring u can take down an imp with flashlight too. trigger them into doing melee attacks by going within range and slipping out of them while theyre actually attacking. Flashlight them inbetween this process and eventually you can kill them. Just make sure they dont recovery in time to trigger them to throw projectiles.

When Im fighting 1v1, i like to this for my amusement and to save a lil ammo. this pretty much works for all FPSes with monsters that have projectile/standing melee attack..... Yes you can do this to a shambler in quake1. axe it to death....

er, maybe i'm misunderstanding you, but you had mouse look bound to a key then always held it down? if you typed "+mlook" in the console it always stayed on.

                        • oh yeah, i also wanted to ask this what do you guys think of speed running in doom 3? totally worthless because it's all linear with no room for shortcuts/etc or would it be good?

                              • Id pisses me off. Turning down my card's hardware acceleration to minimum fixes the sound in Doom, kind of. It sounds the way it's supposed to now, but it doesn't support 5.1. What kind of **** is that? How can a game that is by far the most advanced graphically be so backwards when it comes to audio?
