That bad? the reviews were not excellent, but they were better then mediocre, IIRC.

Thats in comparison to each other. Compared to average games, I guess DE2 was "just" below average. I didn't much like the game though.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Same here - I was really annoyed to find that I'd generally have to reload the AR after every kill. One of my favourite pet peeves regarding DX is that it lacks a genuine assault weapon - it has some stuff you can use for that (like the assault shotgun), but they always have something that prevent them from being as useful as a real assault rifle could be.

I found recoil to be a problem even at advanced skill level and could never get the hang of the ballistic arc of the HE shells.
The std sawed-off shotgun though was a wonder - I could often get single-shot kills on guards at a range beyond my pistol and the sabot shells worked well on camera's and spider bots (saved my rockets for those hard-to-pick locks). It did absorb a lot of my extended clip mods though.

Never really tried the assault shotgun simply because it would've meant dropping a stack of EMP grenades which can come in rather handy.
Strange... I rarely, if ever, managed to get single-shot kills with the the sawed-off shotgun, which rendered it kind of useless, because of it's ridiculously low ROF. I was sold on the Assault Shotgun the moment I pulled one off the shelf in MJ12 armoury, fired it at the wall, and noted the sheer number of holes after holding the trigger down for a few seconds.

Something else I never had time for - the stealth pistol. I couldn't hit anybody in the head with it unless they were < 5m away! Even then it'd often nick the shoulder or something. I remember the MJ12 building in HK with me sitting in the vent trying to pick off the guards with this thing (the venting poison gas only ever got rid of a single guard for me) and using up a whole clip without even hitting the guy sitting at the desk.
It was silenced of course so he didn't even notice the bullets spanging off every conceivable surface nor feel the rush of air as they passed within cm of his face.
I find it hard to believe that the difference in accuracy between that thing and my std heavy-duty sidearm is only 5%.
I used that once, in the Battery Park subway station. After that, I concluded that it was utterly useless, and never used it again (except to give to Gilbert Renton for protection).

Incidentally is there anybody who ever used the plasma rifle?
I though it good in principle but as it takes up as much space as the GEP gun, hindered movement just as much and seemed to be far less effective.
On my first completed game, I lugged it from the MJ12 facility beneath UNATCO right up to the very end without ever finding a use for it. It might have been a bit more useful if it had been smaller (I mean, really, take a look at it when it's lying on the ground; the GEP gun is easily twice it's size), but I found it outclassed in every way by the other weapons available.

EDIT: It is, however, exceedingly annoying in the hands of the enemy, since the incoming shots glow brightly enough to blind you to anything else. I recall one time when I hit ESC just as I was being hit by a plasma bolt - the glare was so bright I couldn't read the stuff on the main menu. A shame this doesn't work on the AI.

Deus Ex 2 was a decent game, if a little simplistic. It's just that its predecessor was clearly one of the best games ever, so it had a lot to live up to.

wel lbeen too busy to finsih the alst levels yet... so still deciding my ending, but the illuminati sounds the best fun

i use the shotgun a lot especiaqlyl with the Sabot to destroy the spdiers and such like. in the last few levels i haqve used it exclusivley for anything except long range with i use my fully modded Scope Rifle for.

In the Realistic game i jsut started, i am trying to get through with no kills at all. this makes things interesting with so many areas populated by more than one enemy.

a lot of sneaking to get past people and leaving them unharmed now.

you guys don't like the stealth pistol? that's my favorite weapon probably. i love it because modded up it's very good and you have tons, and tons of ammo for it. i could usually get a few headshots in a row making it take down even tougher enemies. a really great combo is gas grenades and the stealth pistol. gas makes enemies stand still and then you can't miss head shots.

i thought it took up one square? you couldn't justify that?! given the amount of ammo you get for that gun it probably can do more damage per space than most weapons in the game. makes me wonder what is the most efficient weapon in the game per space it takes up(only counting weapons that use ammo).

I just thought the standard pistol was a lot better - more damage and, slightly more importantly, the ability to actually hit something.
I suppose if I'd begun adding accuracy mods to the stealth beast as soon as I picked it up it might've been different.
Or perhaps if I'd invested extensive skill points in my handgun skill early on rather than later - early on I always think electronics/lockpicking (a single level in each) are more important given the relative scarcity of those you find.
I always had the std xbow bolts when stealth was needed.

                      Std loadout (By slot)
                      1. Pistol (Normal)
                      2. Shotgun (sawed off)
                      3. GEP Gun
                      4. Riot Prod
                      5. Crossbow
                      6. Sniper Rifle
                      7. Baton/Dragon Tooth sword (later)
                      8. Grenade (Lam, EMP, Gas)
                      9. Multitool/Lockpick

+ the standard stacks of tools, grenades, medkits, etc.

                        just thought i'd post those.

                        ravagon -
i put almost all my mods on my stealth pistol. most others guns don't really need mods for me. an accuracy mod on the sniper rifle and reload mods on the gep gun are nice though.

Incidently, you can get upgraded versions of weapons in the later levels by just picking them up while not carrying a weapon of that type yourself, iirc. If someone has dropped their AR due to a sudden case of death for instance, just drop your AR, pick theirs up and then grab yours back again. Saves you having to upgrade it yourself.

Dragon's Tooth, or normal sword? If the former, probably; it's ridiculously powerful that it almost makes other close-range weapons obsolete. If the latter, certainly not; I've never bothered with the normal sword at all. It takes up more room than the knife, does not appear to do any more damage, and first ebcomes available in the same bit of the game that the Dragon's Tooth is.
