According to a recent article on GameIndustry.biz, Microsoft sources in the know have confirmed that Xbox 2 (whatever it's to be named) will not be backwards compatible. If true, this would mean that Xbox games could not be played on Xbox 2.
First no hard drive and then no backwards compatibility. Is Microsoft TRYING to lose this war?
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
Well I must admit I don't know much about the next generation consoles but to be fair Gates must know what he's doing.
All we know so far is there is no hard drive and xbox2 will not be backwards compatible but there has to be a reason not yet disclosed. Otherwise this is suicide, because I'm sure Sony (the one and ONLY) will have backwards compatibility with their PS3.
Who cares? how many PS2 owners play PSone games on their consoles?
If backwards compatabilty either compromises XBox 2 performance or (more likely) pushes up the price point, it'll be no loss.
Gates does n't want to have to bring out the XBox 2 at an extra $50 dollars and give Sony an advantage just so 1% of his customers can play 'Halo" or whatever
All I can say is when a vendor takes away a feature that was offered before, i.e. harddrive / it's competitors backward capability, they are cheating the savy consumer. Xbox2 hasn't even come out yet and already it is inferior. So what if better graphics and speed are gained. Is the average consumer willing to sacrifice storage capacity?
Besides, Gates will probably charge extra for storage capability. It's all about extracting maximum coinage from the idiots.
It was actually one of the things that made me get a PS2, my old PS1 was getting cranky and I had to place it in most imaginitive positions for it to read the discs properly.
I couldn't leave my RPG collection gathering dust just because I didn't have anything to play them with, plus it wasn't that much more expensive than a new PSOne when I got the PS2. Besides, it was the first DVD player in the house.
Oh and sorry for breaking the pattern
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

To all the idjuts, what console from that time is worth playing over the games availiable today?
BTW if anyone says Final Fantasy, you will only bemuse me even further than you already have!
Also the Xbox1 was a pretty good machine, what was that backwards compatible with? I sold my PSone and games to get one because the games were old, I was fed up with them and, most crucially, I WANTED TO PLAY NEW GAMES!!!! Geddit?
