Edit: Ah - not so sweet. I see i've downloaded the older version(14/9/04 version). oh well, maybe i'll give them a go first and then play around with the 20/10/04 version? The talk about .NET has confused me(i'm a document guy, not a programmer ) so let me experiment for a while and if i get stuck i'll yell

    • confused as to how to install latest build
I nderstan you use winrar and extract into the cccpt2 directory Do you then use the net program to start what the exe file or what Thats what I am confused about
      Thanks

      • Tomas1931, you just need to start the game through the regular executable or the shortcut in your start/Program menu if you have installed the playtest build over your main CtP2 installation (we are numerous to have multiple installations of CtP2)...

            • I have a question with fog of war. Why does it still exist within your boundaries? I think this is an unneccessary feature. fog of war should on exist out side your civs boundaries.

              • I thought about that too. Ideally it would probably be nice if it was like RoN: once you invent a certain tech (Mass Media? Radar?), it disappears inside your borders.

Don't know what it would take to implement though, might not be trivial.

                • Don't listening posts do exactly that? Could have 'watch tower' for earlier eras to make the FOG go away.

Exactly as I suggested in a mp mod thread. The time listening posts come (Electricty advance) you already have units that can see the same 3 vision anyway, like Tank and Spies.

                    • 14/09/04 version(from Jbytheways link):

Title screen is very nice, all the option buttons seem well done.
Except when i clicked the credits and i got a fatal error that caused a ctd.
Still i'm playing away and am at around 50AD, last in the pile for world domination.
                      I've noticed a few things.

                      1. when you choose to select your starting colour i get a weird clash between barbarians who are red(like in default) and another civ(cuba in my game), that are also the same red.

                      2. the second(I think - the above colour clash makes it difficult to tell 100%) AI civ takes about 25 secs for its turn compared to about 5 secs for eveyone elses.
They dont appear to be that much more active than any other civ, and on the power graphs are not the most powerfull nation.

Otherwise everything is running like silk - its good to play CTP2 again, thanks guys

                      • I just tried to play an MP game again with a friend. Here are our results:

With the newest playtest (2004-10-20) there's no MP game possible at all.. After starting a game. there is a never-ending resync. It doesn't matter if you load a game or start a new one. And on the host machine there appear some strange messages.

With the old playtest (2004-09-14) there's very often a crash if you select the city manager.

do you have a log file from that game?
if so then please post it here.

                          • @kaan: Sorry, I did a new installation and forgot to enable the logs.
But now I played MP again (with enabled logs):
                            2004-10-20
There are no logs, the host game works, the client always waits for data.
                            2004-09-14
I can't reproduce this error selecting the city manager.

The never ending re-synch was also prominent with the cradle mod in multiplayer... it did it everytime there too...

our workaround was for you to just end the task, then reconnect and skip the first turn, not only would the client miss the first... the host would have to "volunteer" to skip his first to maintain the balance..

as w/ the city manager... cradle did that from time to time too.... never crashed the game... but it'd cause the city manager NOT to come up

                              • from what I've seen and I've played.... everything is running ok.. except from time to time a slaver unit if you moved one then the next one in succession fast by "click-dragging a move command" with the mouse...

it'd execute the command and the slaver would move to the position... but the graphic would not move and clicking on the graphic did no good... but clicking on the square where he SHOULD be selected him... and you could issue commands from there...
also ending the turn would fix the graphic bug.

another problem... not a bug because there is no errors...

just when you get to approx turn 275 (its a gradual change... but exponential..)
the computers turns start to take FOREVER... I'll wait 4 mins between turns on a 2.4ghx P4 with 1280megs of RAM...

I've re-booted, and even loaded the save on a diff computer... still the computers (I believe its the advanced pathfinding) takes forever...

dunno what you guys did to it... but it takes awhile..

not only that.. the AI will not pillage anything?
and I've seen the AI foolishly defend LARGE cities with only 1 unit...

and I have the skill on very hard.

that bout sums up what I've seen...

oooo also.. on the diplomacy screen.. another graphic bug very seldom... never crashes anything... when you click through the tabs when deciding an action to request/offer whatever... the tabs sometimes will fade to blank or dissapear all-together... might just be a setting with how fast they fade into one another and how long the fade delay is allowed, and how fast I'm clicking on them... might be my hardware acceleration... but its not crashing so I can look past that..
