  • This sucks. The latest version is over a month old, and I have still not had any time to playtest this .

    • - go on you know you want to give it a go Solver

I have only got past the new Apolyton Edition[version 14/9/2004 Jbytheway link] title screen(it looks sooooo good) and haven't even moved my settlers yet!

Still its all for a good cause as i've been writeing up some newbie advice on the UI and what all the options do - using Locutus's template. CTP2 has an awful amount of options.....often there are two ways in the UI to access this info(add keyboard shortcuts on top and thats three!). So it will be a few weeks before i get to properly play the new build.

Here's a thought on the music - it appears to be fixed onto the cd, or i just cant seem to find the music files? I'm trying to get past the 'same track repeating' bug that came with the game. I think some one had fixed this a while ago? or atleast had a work around - i was hopeing to run the tracks with winamp?
Is it within the scope of the Source code project to get this fixed in the Apolyton build - is it worth fixing?

      EDIT:

Oh and the build(i guess the latest) in the CTP2 directory doesn't come with the new title screen(i guess because the MP buttons dont work in the new title screen?).

Actually the music switch off bug and the same track repeating bug should be fixed. At least I don't hear a track again and again when I use the random track option from the music screen.

To the audio files: Indeed the are hidden on the CD, but they are there, for instance with a share ware program like Audiograbber you can extract the files.

Actually the version in the directory is hopeless outdated, therefore should better leave the fingers from it.

        • Time to try the latest build methought.

I did a fresh install of CTP2 from the CD. Fired it up and it ran.

Unzipped the two playtest .rar over the top.

Now it won't run. The error message is

          "MSVCP70.DLL not found"

I checked the CTP directory and there is a MSVCP60.DLL

          What do I do?

          • I think it might be a good idea to have a "pinned" thread with a download link and some installation instructions. The link could be updated as new versions become available.

This thread is waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy to long.

                • Thanks, its all go now. Some initial comments (already).

                  Scroll speed.
I am running a 2.8Ghz processor and the scrolling is way too fast especially in the horizontal direction. The vertical is not too bad. The scroll speed is determined by how the scroll is "blitted" in the graphics engine. Ideally a delay should be built in which is read from the userprofile or some other config file. Can this be achieved?

                  Autosave
Currently a single autosave file is created. I have frequently been caught out because the problem I am trying to "rectify" has already been saved. Ideally the last autosave should be renamed to "oldautosave" before a new one is created.

Fortifying a unit in a city
Very minor but annoying. Normally when a unit is fortified in a city it "disappears" into the city. If however the unit is the last active unit in the current turn this does not happen.

                  More to follow.

                  • I have a recommendation a blue dot at the side of the last save to help you find it

                    • I've just noticed a strange behaviour in my latest game with the newest playtest build. All units which are located in my area don't have a full life bar. They all are missing the same amount which you can see in the attached picture. The life bar doesn't change if the units are resting. I didn't saw any message which could explain this change of the life bars. Bug or feature?

                      • Did you lower your military readiness setting?
