  • An idea that's been kicked around some

Yeah, yeah, as I said, the idea's been kicked around some but as far as I can tell nobody's aced on it. The idea is kinda simple - a guerilla - a stealth infantry unit, blah blah blah. However, I was thinking that a 'Propagandist' unit - in effect, a cross between a slaver and a cleric - would be able to 'convert' enemy citizens into guerillas. Of course, that'd require a guerilla unit in the first place, and I'm not sure how the Propagandist could be implemented. Still, I'm kicking the idea out there - again.

Just read the thing in the Source Code forums about the Guerilla creation thing being done in SLIC in... Cradle, was it? Yeah.

Anyway, I'm going to elaborate the idea a bit further: rather than just having 'low-level' units, why not have an entirely new unit, but which is 'replaced' whenever a major military advance is discovered? I'm a bit hazy about what sort of abilities it would have and how strong it'd be in comparison to contemporary units, though. Possibly stronger defensively and faster (by maybe 1/2 - 1 movement point) than the 'standard' infantry unit, but weaker offensively?

Also, spriting. Since I suck at spriting, I'll leave this, but - it'd be cool to see a 'Rambo-like' with different weapons in different eras. Just a thought.

Sprites are the big problem. It's easy to add a unit but it's really hard to find some artist to do the sprite.

Yes sprites are the problem The only units that are easy to make are none humans ( planes and boats are easy to do) so probably not we don't even have a unit similar to modify.

Has anyone seen Steph's storyboard unit maker. Its in the civ3 utilities at civfanatics. Can it make converting FLCs to Sprites easier?

Now that we've got the source code it might not be so easy to 'borrow' other company's artwork. I think they turn a blind eye to mods, but I have a recollection that FreeCiv or someone got some static about using copyrighted art and had to delete it.

Has anybody checked out the latest version of paint shop pro. they have added a macro like idea.

This means that it is now very easy to make .spr files and or convert them form .flc as we no longer have to do the alpha the computer does that for us.

BigMC I use PSP 7.0, I think you are talking about 8.0?

As for the copyrighted stuff, there is so many fan created units out there for Civ3 that we shouldnt get nailed for copyright violations

Yes it is 8 and I just got a script to work converting psp images with no alpha to images ready for compiling.

I now have two problems how to get it to over right an existing alpha and how to get a real copy of the program

Do you want the script posting for conversion

I just nailed a script to convert the colour of any ctp unit. you need sprite edit and notepad. I just need a working makespr script

Right this script will convert ant single image with alpha (the two file export from spriteedit) alter the hue then save it for direct spritetool compiling.

The down side is you have to re write the script if you want a different colour.

To do this just load up a image Fidel with the hue. Then record a new script and run the alteration. Then save it, you can then open both scripts and copy the hue data over.

I just got to work out the spritetool script

I am making a completely new civ (not based on the human race ) there called the ragnors so far I have solders, settlers an psycho solders (like Viking berserks) there based on the moray whatever from the magnificent idiots scenario.
