Wow, if I was playing a civ game where a vast number of my cities broke away to form a new nation, I would probably say: 'damn, how the hell did that happen' and, if it had proved that it was because I was not running my nation competently, then my second reply would have been: 'wow, that is soooo cool-and very realistic'. This is exactly the kind of thing I want to see in civ games, a dynamic system of unification and seperation of nations and empires.
Now, all I have to do is get my hands on a copy of CtPII so that I can play AoM (I could order it, but I fear it will take longer for it to get here than it will for me to get Civ4!)
How long would it take for a Copy of CtP II to get here from the US?

Go get it, it is as good as CTPII out of the box was bad, and that is not a bad grade!
I would advise you not to get the xplosiv version of CTPII, I hear it has some problems running with Age of man.
On the other hand, if find it hard at times to take you seriously.Last edited by Freddz; October 3, 2005, 08:17.

Stan's website still lists CtP2 CDs besides AoM CDs, but last I heard he was starting to run out (and that was some time ago). But you can always try, he's your best bet. I still have 1 or 2 copies as well and sell them at cost price, but shipping from here to Australia is about a week. Might be faster ordering from the US.

it had some good ideas, but they were implemented poorly
I'd describe it as second-hand Civ
but hey, if you enjoy it, why should our opinions matter? To us, it is the BEAST.

In some ways CtP2 was ahead of its time. Have seen many elements of this game in other games.
CtP2 allows you to control a empire without alot micromanagent.
Been reading the forums to AOM and it has almost as many options as Civ4 not bad for a game that is 5 years old. Name another game that has held up so well over time.

Concurrence
I agree with Yin. I have been getting a awful lot of value out of Ages of Man. It, and some other mods, fixes a lot of what made vanilla CTP2 suck - and it did in my view. To put it in one sentence rather than an essay - out of the box the AI would not attack. No challenge at all.
The Frenzy mod and its progeny, in particular AOM, have certainly fixed that.
I haven't lost my wife over it - in fact I think she likes the fact I'm playing it at night and not constantly bothering her! Many are cold, but few are frozen. No more durrian, please. On On!

Too bad I can't see CTP II around on italian shop. OTOH I don't think the italian version would accept the mod."We are reducing all the complexity of billions of people over 6000 years into a Civ box. Let me say: That's not only a PkZip effort....it's a real 'picture to Jpeg heavy loss in translation' kind of thing."
