Since the medmod is now using this file is it correct when I say that I don't need to change the const.txt in the following folder:

      C:\Program Files\Activision\Civilization-Call To Power\scenarios\MedPack4\default\gamedata

And if that's so, why is it still there? I mean, it's not really needed, is it? Or do both files have to be exactly the same for it to work properly?
The one in the MedPack directory is not used, but it took a long time before anyone realised that, so I guess it's just a leftover of prior versions where it was thought that it would do something.

You need to get the 1.2 patch first, then the 1.21 hack, which are both found in the Patches part of the Download section.
Form here on, you have several options. The most popular ones are described in the posts below, though there may be recent mods available which could change your mind.

        From Madcow23:
The basic is the Apolyton Pack. It contains a fixed version of Celestial Dawn's 4.2 mod (THE essential CTP mod - he called it "CTP as it is meant to be played" and believe me, that's a good description) together with a few other niceties such as Harlan's excellent graphics mod.

You'll need to read the README for the Apolyton pack to learn how to avoid the bugs that remain, but it's not too difficult. Also read the PowerSLICs readme in the same pack, as you'll need to tweak one text file to avoid strange messages.

But that's your basics. Play a few games with the Apolyton pack and you'll agree it's a hell of a TBS. (And don't even consider playing at anything below KING level).

If you decide you want more after that, there's plenty to choose from. WesW and Nordicus' Awesome AIPs pack is great if you find yourself wiping the floor with the opposition. It's worth it for the diplomacy improvements alone. And WesW is currently working on an ambitious series of mods, of which the Medieval Mod is currently available and the Modern Mod is arriving shortly. These look superb too and incorporate the Awesome AIP changes.

The world is your oyster! Have fun, and make sure to let us all know what you think.

        From Don Blevens (Scorpion59):
        All,
        The order should be:
        1) CTP
        2) CTP 1.2 Patch
        3) Civfan 1.21 Hack (found in the Patches part of the Download section along with the 1.2 Patch)
        4) Apolyton Pack
        which includes: CD's Mod & Graphics, TP's PowerSLIC 2, Harlan's Graphics Mod, Slax's Color00.txt and Zaz & Uppsala's Maps)
        5) WesW's Medieval Mod
        (which includes Awesome AIPs)

If you do not install the Medieval Mod, you need to install the AwesomeAIPs(Pack Version, not CD's or Original).

        Hope this helps.
        Don

Note: I have combined the Med mod and the Apolyton Pack into a single download. Currently it is available only at my homepage, given in the link at the top of this post. In the futrue, it will also be available here at Apolyton.
You need to get the 1.2 patch first, then the 1.21 hack, which are both found in the Patches part of the Download section.

Can someone send or set up a link here for the 1.21 Hack for Call To Power. My work blocks the page with the 1.21 download on it and I only can get to the forums by a work around, thanks

Thanks, but that page is blocked for me at work. Websense has that page listed as Games, but not this page, but they do this the main page, it is difficult to explain. Hexangon sent it to me thankfully. Now I can go play some Medival Mod

                  Do I need a civfan 1.21 Hack to play mods in C:ctp I ?
                  and
The Chuck Norris military unit was not used in the game Civilization 4, because a single Chuck Norris could defeat the entire combined nations of the world in one turn.

I think it is not necessary, but the hack patch fixes the last annoying bugs in CTP1. Whenever I tried to load a game with a lot of troops and a lot of cities CTP1 crashed, even with Activision's so called final patch, the hack patch fixes this memory hohle. And there shall also be bugs in the scenario file structure so that you have without the final hack patch some serious problems. Therefore the hack patch is highly recommended.

                    • Some mods will work and some will not, but in all cases you can't reload mod saved games properly without the hack (you can reload once, but then when you save and try again it won't work without lots of fiddling) so if you want to play mods without the hack you'll have to do so more or less all in one go.

Interesting to hear and that would explain some stuff. I played on a costum map so I had to use the scenario file structure. I added some new cities styles by Harlan as I got internet. Before I got internet it helped to delete userprofile.txt and another file everytime I wanted to load a game.

                          • It's in the Apolyton directory (click directory at the top of the page).

For some reason it's in Call To Power I\Scenarios, rather than Call To Power I\Mods. Try this link:
