I like that you guys are using the wonders. When I first started playing pbem I naively thought that by only allowing the AIs to build wonders, the wonders would have less of an influence on the game. I thought this was a good thing because certain wonders seemed too powerful and therefore broken. To my surprise I found that allowing only the AIs to build wonders makes them only more unpredictable. Instead, they become more like wild cards. Allowing the humans to build wonders allows them to be used in a more premeditated fashion. I feel human built wonders add another layer of strategizing to the use of wonders. I also think that wonders help focus player attention on various interesting game dynamics and that this was a large part of their design emphasis. Finally, I think with very experienced players, none of the wonders are necessarily too powerful. I think wonders add a color and variety to play that helps make each game that much more unique.

Agreed, I've come to the conclusion that, "You can try to take the wonder out of CTP but you can't take the CTP out of its wonders".Last edited by PrinceBolkonsky; May 9, 2007, 12:39."I cannot fiddle, but I can make a great state from a little city" - Themistocles

Keygen kicked A$$
How's this for a late response!!
GREAT Game Keygen...I applauded you directly, but failed to do so on this forum. I enjoyed the competition, although I was never able to fully recover from an early set-back.
As for my delay in responding, and my slowness in playing, I am afraid I have moved and have had ongoing issues with internet connectivity at my new home. As well, my work computer has been reworked and CTP removed.
However, I am hoping to be back at it in a short while, although I may have to move again IN 3 WEEKS!!...UGH. But as long as I stay one step ahead of he law...
So, bring on the challenges...and theHappies, we will finish our game, come heck or high water!

Challanges for Keygen and Cuaich
Cuaich,
Let me be the first to challange you then. Since my defeat of iDestroy I am within range for a challange.
Keygen,
Once again, I challange you as well. This is the second attempt. Do you fear the Prince?"I cannot fiddle, but I can make a great state from a little city" - Themistocles

Also, I have a challange game against Quinns that began at the same time as the game between iDestroy and Quinns. Were all of us too far apart?
Quinns- Wasn't our game a challange game? I realize now that our game was setup over e-mail and not on the ladder thread. Perhaps you thought it was not a challange. It slipped my mind to inform AP and get a number.

A note on challenges:
The "3-up" challenge note was intended to prevent players from "demanding" a challenge from a position much lower to a player with a position much higher. Any challenge can be made. It is just that if the player is within three of you, then you are "obliged" to accept the challenge barring a "reasonable" excuse. However, once you accept the challenge (from any player at any level) it cannot be withdrawn.
That was the intent, anyway.

BTW: I have only one active challengegame (against Quinns) and one pending (Milamber - waiting for Keygen to set up the game).
Any others, who want to get feathers i their mouth ?????

So you want to be challenged? Ok, here we go. I suggest standard rules except difficulty: Deity, Barbarians: Raging Hordes, doughnut world, no ruins (RUINS_CHANCE_PER_BOX == 0). If you prefer different rules, then that's ok too.

well, starting out bad early on this ladder
i have been doing everything but destroying in my first 2 games. changing things up, in the game against ricketyclik i tried to rush for theocracy and used scientists really early in the game, yes it was stupid. not trying that again.
I CONCEDE TO RICKETYCLIK. there i said it. we're starting a new game right now. so we need a new game number. this time i should be tougher rickety, not going to try in anything stupid this time.
i must be the bottom of the bottom now.
