That is pretty tough-- As soon as I found a tile next to a rainy tile, my bases got planted--Originally posted by Leon Trotsky
The problem I have is that two of my bases don't reach the 2 nutrient surplus any sane player seeks. What was I thinking?

I want to say though that this game is moving very well. I had games that moved at a glacial pace and now I am in two game that move REALLY fast . This one is actually the slower of the two-- ( I get 1 or two turns every day )You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

And we have 5 players, too
I find it impressive for a game that's 7 years old to still be able to pull newbies with an interest high enough for games as fast as this one and also fast veterans like, uh i don't know, yourself and h0bbes (i'm not sure how long you are playing)Last edited by SebP; August 25, 2006, 15:36.

My pace may slow shortly since we have a baby due in about 3 weeks but at worst I should always get the turns out vefore I fall into bed at nightYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Both of us a looooong time-- Do a search for me under my old name of "cbn" and you will find posts about things like my first OCC challenge victory or my first basic questionsOriginally posted by SebP

I do think by now the description " veteran " applies but I would rather be known as "good " or "strong"
Hobbes is a long time vet as well-- I'd bet I have played a dozen to 15 games that involved hobbes and I think that one of my first ever PBEM victories was with him as a co-op partner--WE have also butted heads so you are not upm against an alliance of any type-- Hobbes is always a fast reliable player
Mid and drow are pretty new here as far as I can tell but their gameing pace has been great so I am quite happy with the groupYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

A week or so-- typically the game sits for the week and everyone accepts this as a normal part of this type of game.Originally posted by Mid
Yeah, I'm new to Apolyton and PBEM-ing.
A question - I'm going to be away from my computer for a week or so in late September. What happens in PBEMs when that happens? Would it be time for me to hand over to someone else?
Sorry to be a pain.
Sometimes when a game is only slightly advanced, a person may ask a friend to play the game in his place. This game at 2123 probably fits in that mold where you could give reasonable instructions to cover most eventualities over the next 3-4 turns.
In this particular case, I say let it sit. I have a baby due on September 14 so I am going to disappear for at least two days at one point. And after that, even though I should be able to play these turns every night ( they are still short after all), I would actually not mind a slow down or a break for a week
Oh and the solution if you are away from YOUR computer -- portable hard drive-- Install the game and take your disc and you can play on any computer that you can sit at for an hourYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

Congratulations Flubber! Now, tell... when are you planning to introduce CIV II / SMAC to the newborn?Originally posted by Flubber

Regarding to the current game:
That's it - I'm an idiot. Remember all my whining about not having rainy tiles to make two of my bases grow? Well, it turns out that both bases have sea funguns within their radii, and I kept working on moist flat tiles. Allright, I'm stupid, but the AI priorities don't help at all - one nutrient over two nutrients?

I could try to sound all noble about not addicting my children to video games
but the fact is that I don't want to share

AI priorities are often awful. Thats why I always check my bases when I plant them. The overall selection by the AI is even worse if you have overlapping base radiiYou don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo
