I think that sometimes a mid turn save can mask an earlier replay.

Could be-- I thought that it was that if you were sent a different file ( ie their replay) from a prior player, the game did not recognize that as a replay for you -- My recollection may be faulty but the only time I remember replay warnings in that situation is if I overwrote the old incolming file with the new one
