Sankis sat in the command center in Port Royale, watching moniters and various other devices. Down to his left several feet, sat his second in command, Cecil Lorn.

"Sir" Cecil stated. "I am recieving a transmission."

"Great. Patch Deidre through" Sankis replied.

"Uh...Sir. Its not the Gaians." Cecil said.

"Thats impossible. Who else could be contacting us? Those damned Gaians implied everyone else was dead!" Sankis shouted in return.

"I..I'm not sure. Here let me play it back for you." Cecil suggested.

"From Atla [static] mand to unknown fo [static] rid 02.48.

    "Its rather staticy" said Sankis.

"Yes sir. I might be able to try to decypher the rest if you give me a moment" Cecil said as he punched keys on his terminal. "Lets see... 'From Atla??? to unknown forrces. You are approaching territorial waters on present ??? state your identity and intentions. Warning! Isle of the Deep are present in ????. We noticed you are severely damaged. Need assistance? Please repond to this message before approaching further'"

"Tell them we will go where we please, and for them to get the hell away from our waters. We have cultivated New Sargasso and I will not let those nutrients go to some unknown faction" Sankis roared.

"If...if you wish sir" Cecil replied as he sent the response, though a bit nicer"

      • Again, the Queen's Council was in session.
The unknown foil approaching territorial waters had blatanly ignored their earlier message, and on top of that a cordial message was received from Lt commander Sankis, a well known puppet officer of commander Yang on the Unity.

"Why should we tolerate anything like this from them?", the terraform advisor shouted. "They abandonned us on 'Unity' to save their own skin, and now try to bluff us out still more!!"
"Indeed", the naval advisor agreed. "They have no right whatsoever to order us anymore. They left the Unity, we took over command to ensure our survival thus are legally within our rights to follow our own way. We are no longer bound by the UN reglementations of the colonisation mission."
"Gentlemen, please!" Geo said. "This is a dangerous situation with the potential to become a skirmish for mere resources. Do we really want to let people die over our pride?"
"Besides", the advisor for resource management added, "they have done us a favor. Look to those locations here on the map. Several are ready for terraforming now, and this site here has become a prime location for the founding of a new base." The advisor marked several spots on the latest Planet Map plotted.
"Still", the naval advisor argued, "for our civilians safety they should not be allowed to come even closer to our border base. As long as their actions indicate a blatant ignoring of our independance, they're not to be trusted to dock in our bases or even come within radius."
Both opinions were evenly matched within the council, this meant that the Queen had to tip the balance in favor of a side or coming up with a new proposal that both camps could live with.

Queen Gwynn Elevea of the Atlantean Kingdom spoke up...

                      • Yes Sankis, I know

I'm sorry for not posting. The turns are moving along very quickly and I'm still behind in the 'storyline'. The turns only take a few minutes to play--but I'll try to elaborate on the University story. It would be nice if we could have a single document for every decade including the 'story' posts; and we're racing fast towards the end of M.Y. 2120...

                        ---

                        Edit:

Unsurprisingly, we're not alone on this alien world...

Perhaps I should explain. For some reason the U.N.S. Unity did hold emergency capsules--and they were functioning! There was no reason to worry. Of course, I know because I designed most of the essential parts. Now, why would anyone speculate that we had the only capsule that made it safely to the surface? Unthinkable! At least 5 pods were launched and they have all landed safely on Chiron. If anything went wrong it was due to human error during decent--not the capsule nor the design. Though, it doesn't really matter now.

Most of us recall vividly the day the U.N.S. Unity breached the atmosphere and burned across the sky in an inferno of flames! The grand finale of a long and important journey. Nataliya noted that we had got all the fireworks though we did not plan for it. Some thought it to be horrifying--but most found it amazingly beautiful. I admit, I watched too.

I did dispatch orders for a retrieval team and the crash site was--so it seemed--dangerously close to our first settlements. Scorched earth, the Wastelands and other imaginative names have been applied to the crash site. However, I find the wreckage more interesting... Again, we are not alone.

The remnants of the U.N.S. Unity's command bridge verified my expectations. The ship computer continued to track the escape pods after the emergency launch. Hence, we now know where they all made planetfall! Additionally, we also know that life was sustained in ALL of the tracked pods; seven factions share this planet! Somewhat unfortunately we are located quite remotely and contact has not yet been established. I am personally looking forward to recording the factional scientific reports.

A side note: Interestingly, Chiron presents seemingly impassable streches of land--crimson native fungal life effectively poses a great risk to our exploration teams. Additionally, several hostile native lifeform sightings have been reported. --I'm afraid I cannot comment further on this classified issue.

So, this concludes that we are not alone on this alien world--indeed, we have interesting company!

                          • Geo was satisfied.

What first seemed a situation going from worse to even worser was now resolving nicely.
Diplomatic contacts were in progress, and almost a complete reversal of the initial contacts.
Soon trade and wellfare would find it way to both the Atlantis Kingdom and the Nautilus Empire, but that brought it's own dangers. Perhaps the old disagreement about living in isolated subsea settlements would rise again with deepening contacts with the Nautilus Empire. Time would tell...

For now, internal matters must be attended. The founding of a new base, bringing cargo and equipment to the stations onshore. This would certainly rise the spirits of those who feel they're withering away beneath the waves...

And later tonight, Gwynn and he were free for once. Something rare these months...

                            • 2121 to Captain Sankis.

                              ---

                              Scientific Progress, M.Y. 2120:
Almost two decades have passed and we are trying hard to secure our small settlements. Although the immediate surroundings have seemingly sufficient resources, we lack the man-power to utilize the vast amount of minerals and the fertile soil. Well, until now, that is!

Our production priorities have been changed per Doctor Rubin's orders and the work force is working even harder now! The major change, however, is the invention of self supporting robotic supply units, the crawler, capable of extracting at least 1/3 of the present natural resources in a smaller area.

While this is a tremendous breakthrough in itself, there seems to be even more resources extractable. Currently, we have not found a way to certify this.

(I've also been talking to the central base planning office and it seems they've begun preparing a detailed layout of nutrient, mineral and energy sources within our inner perimeter. I hope to see the results in less than 2 years.)
