If that's throwing in a word of wisdom now and then, taking a base to govern as you see fit, or taking over as faction leader, or anything in between, is up to you.

Rumors concerning recreational use of nerve stapling at the highest levels of government are greatly exaggerated!
I'll try to find my way there.

    • Hi

I was directed to this thread.

I've read a couple of the threads and think I understand the following:

      The game is just starting;
      It's SMAC not SMAX;
It contains several normal rules against exploits (no copters against bases, no stockpile bug, but allows crawlers/trawlers and probe sea craft).
It will all players in one faction against the AI (Mart will you be able to tweak the AI mid-game?).

I'm interested, will have some time on my hands (short to mid term), and would like to know where we are going.

What's this about a neutral Faction? Are we truly neutral in attributes?

        PS

I guess I'd have to download the save to see where it stands re production, energy, and labs.

The Wardroom thread is for playing the game, both role playing and strategy discussion.

This thread is for questions and comments about the game.

That is correct. Mart has already conducted several playtests.

This is a democracy game. Where we go and how we get there depends on the people participating.

Yes, no SE penatlies or bonuses; no SE aversions.

The Turn Posting Thread is for game saves. Comments and questions go in this thread.

Could you edit your post in the Turn Posting Thread to nothing? I'd like to keep comments and questions out of the Turn Posting Thread to make it easier for a casual reader to follow the game.

I think Tim plans to suggest the northern base to you.

Science sounds especially good to me. I think Tim needs someone to lead the discussion on research.

              Your introduction worked.

                  (1) Mutual respect. This democracy game is "newbie" friendly. Do not put down players with little experience or players who haven't read every thread in this forum.

                  (2) Any use of the scenario editor is prohibited.

                  (3) No repeats of saves to achieve a better battle result, pod popping or any other random result.

                  (4) No playing alternative moves in the game saves.

                  (5) No playing beyond current turn in the game saves.

                  (6) Do not insert stockpile energy after a unit in the base build queue.

                  (7) Do not make make more than one social engineering change per line, per turn. For instance, one is not permitted to start the turn in wealth, switch to power mid-turn for the extra disbanded minerals, and then switch back to wealth that same turn, getting the refund. Switching only to see results of the change without any played actions is permitted.

                  (8) Do not perform multiple airdrops in a single turn with the same unit using the right-click menu. Do not make air drops using the right click "air drop to" function, when it is not possible to do so with the "i" button, ie. after already having moved or made a drop.

                  (9) Do not use the F4 screen when you've infiltrated the AI to change the AI's workers to specialists.

                  (10) Upgrades anytime allowed, i.e. you may upgrade a unit through the unit workshop and attack during the same turn.

                  (11) No discovering bases in unexplored terrain by clicking darkened tiles.

                  (12) Do not attack bases with copters.

                  (13) Human players must build or conquer the base containing the Voice of Planet SP for win by Transcedence.

                  (14) Do not exploit any other bugs usually prohibited in multiplayer games (e.g. saving and loading build queues to build satellites without aerospace complex). PLEASE ask if you're not sure!

                  (15) The turnplayer will save and post the game immediately prior to hitting the "end turn" button.
Here are the rules posted in the Index, News & Welcome thread.

Rule (14) is a catch all. In the nine years since SMAC was released, many bugs and exploits have been discovered in this forum. An example is the use of saving and loading build queues to build a facility in a base that is not eligible.

Bugs which require this kind of manipulation are not permitted in multiplayer games.

There are other bugs/exploits which are permitted. For example, the eco-damage bug. After the first fungal bloom, building a Tree Farm, Hybrid Forest, Centauri Preserve or Temple of the Planet at ANY base raises at the number of minerals that can be produced without pollution at EVERY base.

Another one: the technologies that are available for a faction to research are not random. You are permitted to take advantage of the predictability of tech choices to optimize tech bee lining.

If there is any doubt, the safest course of action is to PM Mart before you use the exploit.

Rule (11) was inadvertently violated in ACDG3. A Data Angel player (who else?) was clicking on blank squares and was puzzled why the map didn't recenter on a blank square and, worse, reported the coordinates of the noncomplying square in a chat among the Data Angels.

Cheating can deprive other players the fun of overcoming the game's challenge and nullify part of the effort Mart made in designing a challenging game.

Since you don't care which base, is the eastern base still good?

                      • There are two new threads in the AC Stories forum. (If I have any questions about the creation of the game, I might start a thread in the AC Creation forum. Pretty soon moderator might stuff ACDG5 cancer into a demo game forum.)

The Official Narrative is for Mart and me to keep a narrative (CMN) of the game. Only CMN Mart and me should post in this thread.

The story comment thread is for comments on the official narrative and for stories about the game. Anyone may post comments on the narrative or post stories in this thread.

Are you asking if the eastern base (cleverly named East at this point) is good for him, or good for you. I was under the impression that you were interested in the east base and figuring Dacole for the north base (cleverly named North at this point).

I think the brilliant originality I have demonstrated in naming these bases speaks to the question; do we really need base governors?

                          • Tim,

                            Good for dacole.

I'm willing to take it if no one else wants it; but I have a lot of other things to keep myself amused.

Are we going to vote on naming HQ? I like "Unity Command."

Base governors get to name their own bases.

                            • A technical note

I checked the mid save from Bodissey.
The problem with the file path name is the same, so any person with windows on PC will most probably have problem with saving the game after opening it.

I am working on the win_mac fix program. The recent version works only for multiplayer smax and smac but not for singleplayer.

For now, Bodissey should play turns and save midsaves/endsaves (or any other mac owner should be ok)

Meanwhile, if you need to switch to PC, I can edit the file in hex editor, let me know.

                              • What kind of error occurred when you tried to save a game from his mid turn save?

As you are aware, Kody originally wrote the fix.

Until we get the win_mac fix program updated to single player, governors are going to have to tell Bodissey what they want (unless they are playing on a Mac).
