Sounds good, if not too time consuming. And another problem is 10 turns is usu not enough to develop and pursue a specific strategy. But I'm for it.

We need just one ingredient: several vets around to play the game.

i think 10 works fine, a SG at civfanatics used that,and it was plenty time for each player to radicly change the nation(i doubled the base #, packed in a zillion boreholes,and all in 10 turns. the next playerd demo-ed all that in 10 turns in the name of Role play ) it will just be slower at the start. of course it may not be as focused as a one player game, or be high performance. but the best learning experiances ive had are from SG(for other games)

and i dont think a 'vet' is needed, as im assuming you mean for the games 'cornerstone' of learning. smac is pretty old, and almost all the players here are better than the ones even a few years after the game started(a very developed player base) so far as im concernd, mostly everyone here is a vet.

...now,a commando or elite player

there was a similar attempt at cgn to do something like like this, and with players ranking themselves with morale names

I have generally followed your plan and chose centauri ecology first. I'll upload this save on Huge map of planet and I have a problem now with santiago. She is attacking but if I build too many military units then I won't be able to build bases and research enhancements. Her rush is a lot easier to defend now because I planted forests early and got the resources to quickly pump out the impact rovers. Before I would have quit the game.

Lazerus put me to shame in Felix Cactus. I'm going to need plenty more ICS games before I've got something decent, and I've been playing with Gaia and Sparta recently.

Try Cycon, Morgan, Drones, Uni. Gaia and Sparta are not the best ICSers.

Someone GAVE a hiver AI -- Ouch -- I can see two research factions helping each other get there quicker but if someone helps the Hive or Drones get there fast, they are likely signing over the game.

The research factions have to garner a good advantage from the early game. If an industrial faction gets to the important techs fast enough, I don't like the chances of the research faction

The Hive got IA, yes, furthermore, it was able to assume governorship (with PKs around) after building EG and had signed pacts with most if not all human factions which in total at least doubled (if not tripled) hiverian economy.

Hive was therefore also first to discover MMI and build CF (it's SMAC)..

yeah i always forgot that, and opened the sav in smax. senethro didnt like all my reload warnings...

I would have tried to get everyone vendetta on hive(if i had been playing still) and used morgan+univ to outtech him to fusion or something and blow him out of the water. hive had IA in 2111, IIRC. or 2113. or my memories are going...

IMHO the univ should put up the best ICS, apart from using hive. why you are using sparta for (good) ICS games is beyond me

I'm pressed in for defence. I have problems beating santiago. She hates me because I chose wealth. And wealth reduces the morale of my troops and the impact rovers have a hard time dealing with the veteran sythmetal infantry.

She is now using pulse 3 armour and wealth diminishes my morale.
