Weird SMAC screenshots

It was neighborly of them, but it still made me nervous just to have 'em in the house. You know how those bugs are . . . You invite 'em in once for coffee . . . next thing you know, they're spawnin' all over the place, leaving molted exoskeletons on the furniture. Pretty soon, they've taken over the neighborhood. And then there go your proprety values!

Here's a shot from my upcoming SP Challenge. I just founded a base and this is what I encountered:

Hmmmm. I just captured a stack of 5 AI probes with my marine -detachment cruiser. Took a screenshot for posterity, but got this instead:


Any ideas why?

Actually Hobbes it just looks like you had windowed out of SMAC(X) when you took the pic.

I had this problem, but do not remember details.

If you have WinXP try to use PrtSc button (it copies screen image to clipboard) then paste it to some graphical application.

It might be also palette problem.
In Alpha Centauri.ini under:
[Alpha Centauri]
add the following line:
DirectDraw=0

this also allows usage of probably any resolution your screen uses (larger than 1024x768 too)

Actually isn't it "Shift and PrntScrn" simultaneously? Thats what I do when doing a screen capture.

Yeah, too many people were looking at my old avatar and not being able to figure out what it was. And then my son, whose a big Star Wars fan, was asking me about the pics next to posts, so I showed him how to create and upload an avatar, in this case being that of a favorite SW character.

Fungal Tower and a monolith? Any ingame benefits? I have to check

It is possible to have them both on a tile, nice stuff for a map, where you need to destroy FT before being able to use the monolith, I checkek and when FT is there, a base cannot use it.

The cash for the kill and the monolith resources would be a double bonus for killing the tower. Unfortunately those things can often be very strong and tough to kill

You can put nerve gas on a probe team? I never use the stuff, but I guess it can be alpha.txt modified.

Wow, Elite Probe Hovertank. It actually has a Singularity Reactor, so that means they designed it themselves. Did they have to start from a predesigned probe hovertank?

No, you can't put Nerve Gas onto a Probe Team - I put it there via the alphax.txt file. I also put the "AA" ability
onto these probes....

The "3" actually referes to the movement points, not the reator level. However I did put some units into this SP Challenge that do have level 2 and level 3 reactors! However they have some "unique" qualities to them!

Has been a while since I played. I was thinking "Power: 4" was reactor level, but reactor would be a *n at the end.
