  • without roads how would you move your military? or are you a builder in this case?
Actually its a doctored screenshot. The REAL game i played has roads going between bases, but no more.

My army is a bunch of elite mind worms and commmando chaos needles. I use transports and IoD anyway, so roads are actually of no use here. i am avoiding boreholes to be in character as a gaian.

Geez, why can't anyone post pics or game descriptions without ever inciting comments like "It's year 2150 and you're researching that?? How lame!".

I, for one, play for fun, not for others appraising my gameplay.

I wasn't even defending myself (I have never bothered to post any pic here), but Cata, criticized twice by Laz, in a very similar way.

If you didn't notice, Xian, the exclamation "it's 2110 and you're still on D:AP???" is neither polite inquiry nor a creative comment on someone's strategy. It looks rather like "I'm better than you", and I believe serves this purpose.

Funny that the very best players, the Premiership I would say, like Googlie or Flubber, never post remarks like that. Apparently, they know something about tech stagnation, tough starting position, early wars with aliens and the like...

            • I agree with Kirov. While I appreciate the help and advices provided on this borad that sort of remark just serves to elevate one poster over another.

I've noticed it occuring if one of my ships tries to bombard a city containing another ship (or tries to bombard a land square while in range of a city containing a ship). It ends up in an arty duel (with its attack reduced by 100%, so always looses).

I don't remember this ever occuring in SMAC, so could it be a bug in SMAX?

edited to remove broken link to screenshot (see subsequent post for working pic).

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

                    Edited to add:
                    Ok, that worked properly

                    Anyway, regarding (slightly) weird screenshots:

The "weird" thing was that it was Yang who called this vote, despite being at war with all the other factions, most of whome were allied with me (the Pirates). (The faction with Svensgaard's portrait and the Spartan logo is just a custom faction I was testing at the time).

I think its always done that, arty and air defense always retaliate when in range. now 100% from land doesn't really make sense though, although I guess technically it could be considered land based guns. I have original unpatched smac at home, I will try it later

it was not a serious comment (like saying you're not very good shooting a gun with your left toe are you?), nor is the screenshot. It's quite a long standing joke the issue and fuss that went on about the "no road" strategy. Cata is very easily able to transcend long before that year and i know that.

Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

I was one of the major participants in the no-roads thread and can confirm that it became quite well known.

Kata can take some ribbing-- In fact you can make comments in your own PBEM threads and he will magically appear. I have come to think he is checking EVERY THREAD
