I know what you mean but do not understand. When the reply email is sent out, it dosnt send any more until you visit the thread again, so several posts have now gone by.
i believe AC edited her post somewhat by the time you got here.

''Oh,Commissar,if we could put the potatoes in one pile, they would reach the foot of God''.But,replied the commissar,''This is the Soviet Union. There is no God''.''Thats all right'' said the worker,''There are no potatoes''
It only sends notices for posts made after your visit. It wouldn't send me a notice for a 13 Apr post on 22 Apr, after I've visited this thread at least twice... plus AV has not edited the post since the grace period.
I can't believe I'm the only one who got the autoresponse from Settler. Actually, I got 2 copies of the email. Header and text of email (excluding the trivial stuff that follows the reply) I can't make this stuff up:

Hello Straybow,
Alinestra Covelia has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Weird SMAC screenshots - in the AC-General/Help/Strategy forum of Apolyton Civilization Forums. Here is the reply:
In this screenshot, I'm playing as the Hive and conquering the Believers. This is a necessary step, because their Pact Brothers, the Usurpers, are building many Planet Busters and I have to have Believer bases as a launching platform for my anti-Usurper campaign, which will probably involve lots of atrocities.
Miriam has finally come to her senses and has become a submissive Pact Sister to me. I am still at war with the Usurpers, as you can see in the right hand display.
I quickly began transferring units to Miriam's bases, then noticed something odd. One of her bases had no defenders, except for my Chaos Penetrator, and ...
... one of Marr's missiles!
Looks like we have a Berlin situation!
I think I spy an interesting basis for a SMAC fan fiction spy novel!

Interesting enough, I got the email notification as well, but the post is not here. Did anyone see her post?

She shouldn't be able to. Normal users can't delete their own posts. It would be best to wait for her clearing up everything.

I decided to play one of the faction v. faction scenarios (uni v. believers) and this is what I got. It's kind of hard to tell from the screenshot, but those are Locusts of Chiron in my base! Sorry about the colors, but I just couldn't get them to come out right.
nice never succeded to get "evil" mindworms in my own base. I have succeded with having mindworms standing on the same title as a former when fung boom.
What do I care about your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output.
I think I saw a screenshot of that in this thread. I didn't even have a fungal bloom. Frankly, I didn't know they were in my base until Believing troops disembarked from the transport. The LoC attacked & destroyed them!!
