  • Yes, IV was excellent. Maybe too good. My concern is the current move away from TBS. There are tons of RTS games available. Not so much for TBS. I didn't care for Colonization. Will any future Civ 5 be anything I would even like/

    • One can only hope. There is still alot of things they can still do... many new ideas to try. I really hope Civ V moves in the right direction, and is not a step back, or such a totally new game that it really can't be called Civ anymore.
      Keep on Civin'

      • We can all hope - but Civ4 is a great game and I think it'll be hard to improve on or match without going in a new direction. Civ3 was always a filler game that re-used a lot of Civ2 code under the hood (without achieving the gameplay of the older game) so Civ4 had a clear goal to improve Civ2 with almost a decades worth of better technology and more ideas to work in. That's not going to be the case to the same extent with Civ5.

        • civ2 was actually closer to civ1 then civ3 to civ2.
So civ4 is in fact the first re-invention of the civ genre. But I think there's still a lot to develop. I especially hope that they will go more into city specialisation (much more) and more macro-level administration of your civ. (Not that I dislike the micro management, but the way a civ is lead should have much more influence then only a few civics).

Having said that, I loved civ2 and civ3 as well.

          • Damn, this is what happens when you keep out of the loop for so long as I did. Only today I noticed that Dan's name wasn't at the bottom of the page as usual, but instead there was this... Plomp guy or whatever. I thought "who is this usurper?" then I noticed that it is the poster formerly known as CyberShy.

And Ming and rah and Locutus and Solver, all gone? What the hell is happening to the world?

Well, good luck to the new admins and let's hope they can keep the boat afloat at least till Civ 5 is around...
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

            • Ming and rah are still around, much to everyone's chagrin. But we're rid of the rest, so it's a small price to pay, really.

Yeah, I've noticed Ming and rah are still bothering us as usual. Old habits die hard, I guess.

As for the rest, it just took me a couple of hours to read about what happened and to know that they are somewhere else. Apparently, small price to pay indeed.
