    Thanks, DanQ

I think I'll have Asher make all of my calls to tech support for any software/hardware I purchase from now on.

      Update

      Now we're getting somewhere.

On Monday, another technical support representative for ThePlanet verified the error and forwarded it onto their Network Operations Center (NOC) for further support. Yesterday, one of that department's reps noted the following in part:

The traces from your customers make it through the Planet routers and timeout at the server. [..] Hop 9 is the peer we share with Comcast... the trace passes through our distribution routers and on to the Customer Access router... The next hop is the server. I am also able to trace back out into [C]omcast network from the edge router and my local workstation so we know routing on the Planet side is sound. The only explanation for this issue is a block on [the] IP [in question] in Comcast's network on the return route or a local firewall issue (server level).
I had already verified that there was no firewall block on said IP at the server (Apolyton) level, which this NOC rep acknowledged later on in their reply. To further this towards resolution, ThePlanet's NOC department has put an inquiry into Comcast on this matter.

By the way, hope this produces an answer DanQ

I am curious, how does an IP get "blocked" by a provider, wouldnt it simply stop allowing access to the intrnets period?

maybe i dont understand, but Comcast is a provider and yet their is a possibility it is blocking one of its own customers?

Why not just pull BG's ability to access the net instead of picking one site to block his IP?

              thanks

Comcast just has some kind of routing error on their side I'd imagine. It's not that it was blocked. The internet is powered by software and software is always buggy. (Except mine. Never had one bug. Just lots of unexpected features.)

Maybe my local Comcast server realized just how evil Apolyton is and took it upon itself to save me.

                      Checking In...

ThePlanet is still waiting to hear from Comcast, though the latter has had a ticket on this issue open since mid last-week.

It's Comcast, expect that to be taken care of sometime around 2010.

                              Nope -- that's why I haven't checked in again.

I will do so weekly unless something comes up on it.

Is Comcast aware this is a RED ALERT?
