  • Suggest Topics for PolyCast or ModCast

Have a topic to suggest for either PolyCast, our Civilization strategy podcast or its modding sibling ModCast? Post a link to it in this thread for consideration. This is your community podcast after all!

If a topic you suggest here is included in a future episode of either show, you will receive a one-month subscription to ApolytonPLUS, Apolyton Civilization Site's (ACS) optional subscription service (or an extension to your existing subscription where applicable). To improve the chances of the topic(s) you suggest being chosen, consult the accompanying discussion threads to any past and current episodes to see what extent if any your topic(s) have been featured already. You can also use the forum search feature to assist you; for better results, limit your search(es) to the "Apolyton/Community" forum.

Under the combined heading of PolyCast, ACS is the only known website to produce its own Civ podcasts. Thank you in advance for your continued support and participation.

Perhaps a Civ5 Forecast (w/ predictions) is in order?

How long will you live in Civ years, and what edition will be your last? If you figure an average of three score and ten, and a new Civ game comes out roughly every five years, I'll live until Civ VIII. Hopefully long enough to see real canals that can span 2 hexes. It's a dream...

People who were born close to Civ I coming out can calculate their age this way. Those born before Civ I will need to us 'BC' or Before Civ. In other words I was born in Civ VI BC...err something like that. Like dog years for people who were too busy 'one more turn' ing to feed their pup, RIP.

Or, you could just chat up borders or something.

The ModCast panel is intending to spotlight Dale's Combat Mod for Civ4 so stacked combat should be addressed there in a substantial capacity. I know it was talked about during PolyCast's first season but to what extent let alone what episode I can't recall at the moment... If I come across it, I'll follow-up to -- I'll be able to respond on behalf of the team more specifically then.

Unless I've misunderstood, I believe we addressed this last episode during the Forum Talk segment. If that discussion is not what you're looking for, please let us know!

-- the first couple of paragraphs sounds like some banterable (new word! ) material for an intro/outro. As for chatting up borders, are we asking them out on a date? In all seriousness, feel free to elaborate to better prevent me from interpreting in such ways.

Thanks to all three of you for your quick and applicable suggestions so far.

I was thinking more along the lines of how new innovations in the field of PC gaming could influence what gets included in CivV; what's most likely to show up in a sequel -- a forecast.

But if that's too repetitive, then no problem.

For the Modcast I would cover:

              1. Planetfall mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=252829 )

              2. Civ Gold mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=189646 )

              3. How to Design a Mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=173061 ) - Old but good including good information from Soren

              4. How to Create a Mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=262402 ) - a decent starting place for new modders

              For Polycast I would recommend:

              1. Civ specific strategy talk

              2. Victory condition specific strategy talk

              3. Strategy differences between civ4 and BtS (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=262294 )

              4. BtS 3.13 unofficial patch (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=246057 )

For PolyCast, the question of if and when Civ4 will be finished is quite topical, and a crucial question for the community.

seriously something about ICS and why it is so handicapped in Civ 4, the realism of ICS, and ICS for Civ 5?
Alternately, you could just have Yin eat cardboard on the air while being taunted repeatedly by Solver several thousand miles away.

Is the same thing going to happen to Civ as happened to board wargaming in the '70s?

For those not yet fully aware at that point in history, wargaming went belly up in rather shocking fashion.

Got too complex some say, others say D&D took away players, some say the publishers failed the players.

Civ is becoming more complex. It is being made more and more for those who are part of the genre. I'm all for that as a better game for me, but it does not bode well. Need to bring in new players to keep things going.

Competition, real time, the consoles. Now Civ is moving to consoles. Interesting move to attract new players, but I doubt I'll bother with it. First time I've said that about a Civ product. I'll wait for reviews, put it that way.

Regarding publishers failing, well they're human after all. New guys come and go. We'll have to see. As has been discussed, Civ IV will be a tough act to follow. Has the genre reached a point where real innovation will come in smaller bites?

Yadda yadda, blah blah blah, could go on forever. As the Civ turns, are these are the wee hours of the night, or is that the first light of dawns glow upon the dew outside my window?!?

Hence the move to put out a simplified (what does Barry like to say, "streamlined") version of Civ for the console market. Pull new players ino the fold, give them a chance to get their feet wet and then push into a more complex Civ5.
