  • What? That doesn't even make any sense
If I don't turn in an assignment, I get a zero. If Cutler misses 5 games, he gets a zero for each. It drastically lowers his value to the team.

    What? 2013 Y/A is 7.4. 2008 was 7.3. His Y/A is .1 yard per attempt higher in 2013.
His net yards are down somewhat. He's getting sacked more often with the Bears.

615 attempts. What the **** does this mean? Do you seriously think a QB throwing 600 times a season makes him a great QB?
For the year? Absolutely. Looking through the list of those with 600+, I see names like "Brees" and "Peyton" and "Farve" and "Brady". I don't see names like "Vick" and "Newton".

615 is a significant number. Over a larger number of attempts, we would expect to see the marginal passer rating drop. This is basic statistics, Albie.

It means he's on a ****ty defense with no run game and he's forced to throw and/or he's a mediocre QB who needs more pass attempts to hang in games because he's throwing picks and stuff.
So you're saying that Cutler is a mediocre QB? I believe that's my point.

You also see this year's Matt Ryan (4-12), Matt Stafford (7-9) and Joe Flacco (8-8) there.

Glad you brought up Newton cause he's a good example of what I mean by a good team has its QB throw less.

Cam's attempts have dropped form 517 to 485 to 473. His yardage has fallen from 4051 to 3869 to 3379.

Yet at the same time, the Panthers record has gone from 6-10 to 7-9 to 12-4.

You can see similar relationships with other QB's. Look at the career of your boy Rivers.

      Atts and wins:
      460; 14
      460; 11
      478; 8
      486; 13
      541; 9
      582; 8
      527; 7
      544; 9

Here's a chart so you can see what it looks like:

I'm not saying more pass attempts cause a team to win less games. I am saying that the circumstances that would cause a QB to throw a ton (no defense, no running game, lots of turnovers) also cause a team to lose. A QB throwing a ton is an indicator that a team is struggling. It's not the less a QB throws, the more a team wins. Its that the more a team wins, the less the QB throws.

Ideally, you don't want your QB throwing more than the high 400's. When they get up into the 600's, there's a problem.

So stop ****ing thinking that if a QB throws a ton that means they're automatically elite or having an elite season! It really means their team ****ing sucks.

I'm not sure whom you're arguing against, Albert. You seem to believe that a Quarterback is having an awesome season when he throws for 2300 yards, and misses five games. Because he didn't have to throw more. I never made the argument that Cutler is elite. All I said is that he had one excellent year where he threw for a ton of yards, the only time he's ever been in the conversation with Manning, Brees and Brady.

You're totally incapable of understanding that it wasn't Manning, Sanchez and Flacco aren't you? I'm going to say it one more time and then you can wander aimlessly.

          • Ben, it's not about Cutler. It's about your inane idea that volume = greatness.

You know who had a great season this year? Russell Wilson.

Only threw it 407 times and had under 3400 yards passing but he had a superb season. To you, he's mediocre.

            Look at this superb stat-line:
            257/407 (63.1%) 3357yds 26TDs (6.4% TD%!) 9INTs (2.2%) 8.2Y/A 101.2 passer rating.
            96/539yds/1TD rushing
            13 wins and 4 game-winning drives.

That's a successful season by any measure. That's Steve Young in 1992.

Seriously. This is Steve Young's line in 1992:
            268/402 (66.7%) 3465yds 25TDs (6.2%) 7INTs (1.7%) 8.6Y/A 107.0 passer rating.
            76/537yds/4TD rushing
            14 wins and 5 game-winning drives.

It's scary how similar the numbers are, even down to the rushing yards.

Steve Young could come back this year and play exactly like he did his entire career and you would call him average because he would only throw it a little over 400 times a season.

You're like Ben sometimes. Of course I know football is a team sport and I don't think Sanchez, Eli, and Flacco are better than Brady, Peyton, and Brees. That post goes to show your point that it's about the team.

              • You certainly have a poor way of expressing that opinion. Maybe it's not Ben, or me.

Changing the topic, yet again. Please find a quote, anywhere where I'm down on Russell Wilson. He reminds me of Flutie but Flutie was better.

But Russell Wilson has never thrown for more than 3400 yards! Or thrown more than 407 times! 4000yds and 600 pass attempts is the measure of greatness!
