      I was tempted to take a kicker a couple rounds ago to make sure I got the one I wanted but figured "No, they will laugh at me for drafting a kicker so early"...so I thought I would wait. Now Koy and Jag make me sweat out 9 picks (well 7 I guess, neither of them was going to take a second kicker). But I got the kicker I wanted, so it's all good.

        Worth noting, I got Akers in the 22nd round last year.

        Joining the Kicker rush never pays off.

          "Never" is a strong word, although that's the conventional wisdom.
          I say if there's a kicker you want, no reason not to spend the pick. You'll be happier with your team.

          I figure I can almost write in the rest of my team at this point and probably get 70-80% of my preferred guys.

            Wow, Ben and JR both around, just need Guy and it will be back to me!

            As for San Francisco and Akers, I figure that SF hasn't done much to improve since last year, and they will still have red zone issues...meaning they will be kicking a lot again this year. Even if I am wrong and they don't I figure Akers is a pretty solid pick...if I am right and he has a similar season to last year (which admitedly was record breaking an not likely to be reproduced) it's an extra 3 points every week for me!

              I've done it both ways. The only time I ever had the best kicker (or a kicker in the top half), was when I let the pick come to me.

              Also, JR, I strongly suspect you'd pick a QB2 before picking a Kicker.

                I suspect that is in reference to my one QB...but I'm not worried about that (obviously)....I think there are still half a dozen quarterbacks I would be happy to take for the one game I plan to use them. And if necessary, I will take someone off waivers (last year Cam Newton was available if I recall correctly).

                  As for San Francisco and Akers, I figure that SF hasn't done much to improve since last year, and they will still have red zone issues...meaning they will be kicking a lot again this year. Even if I am wrong and they don't I figure Akers is a pretty solid pick...if I am right and he has a similar season to last year (which admitedly was record breaking an not likely to be reproduced) it's an extra 3 points every week for me!
                  I think Akers is a fine pick, just I wouldn't pick him at 16. Too many needs still out there.

                    I suspect that is in reference to my one QB...but I'm not worried about that (obviously)....I think there are still half a dozen quarterbacks I would be happy to take for the one game I plan to use them. And if necessary, I will take someone off waivers (last year Cam Newton was available if I recall correctly).

                        No, and I didn't have Peyton Manning last year.

                        Oddly enough I was 6-8 despite picking up Cam Newton to replace my backup. Ken who lost Peyton Manning, had his backup step up, Stafford, and went 9-5.

                        Even if you do get a QB off the waiver wire, and he's as good as Cam - he's still not going to make up the difference.

                          Agreed that I will always take my QB2 before any kicker; hadn't noticed that.
                          But if he gets both guys he wants, no harm done.
