    • Basically the effect is to drop the overall power of the QB while maintaining a lot of the separation. So with 1 PPR, last year the difference between QB1 and QB10 was about 350 points. With .5 PPR it would have been about 300. However, QB1 would now be worth ~600 points instead of over 800, bringing them at least closer to-but still well above-the range of players at other positions.

      • There should be separation at different stratas. The Top 5 at any position should be able to show it. Then 6-10 and so on. If I want to pick a WR and a RB with my first 2 picks, I should expect to get a somewhat lower QB available with my 3rd pick, as a for instance. QB and TE, whatever.

Berz isn't in and JR is trying to get registered. That leaves 4 more open slots.
And those four slots last year were Guynemer, Tuberski, snoopy and myself....I think only Tuberski has made any statement about joining (he said he wasn't)....anyone heard from the other two?

sounds like a plan, qbs do need to be reduced a bit - if we're voting on it I'm fine with +.5 for comp and -.5 for inc and the rest of last year's settings

              • A few IDP thoughts on a quiet Saturday afternoon...

If we're going to nerf the QB position, let's compare this approach to some other options.
                For instance:
                --incompletions = -0.25 instead of -0.50
                --TD pass = 4pt instead of 6pt
--passing yds nerfed from 25 yd/pt to 40 or 50.

                Or some combo.

I'm not a huge fan of massive nerfing of the position, because it (the NFL) is really a QB/passing-driven league. We already upgraded RBs to 10yd/pt, but the reality of the NFL is that most teams use timeshares, so it's tough to get more than one RB who can contribute consistently. OTOH, the TE position is evolving quickly, and I support the flex option for them.

                On the other proposed changes:

I like having return yds, even if it's a bit of a gimmick. Finding the DBs and otherwise marginal offensive players who can contribute in this area provides more options, both in the draft and in-season. Nerfing it to 50yd/pt (60% reduction!) makes the stat all but useless.

Defensive player changes -- If Koyaa's intent is to make defense more important in the draft, this won't do it (for reasons already noted by others). We upgraded the value of defense a few years back by going from 3 players to 5. Making tackles 50% more valuable while declaring turnovers "random" seems a bit random in itself.

                • yeah, I like ret yds and 50 does pretty much negate the option. I'm happy with 20 to 30

.5/comp and -.25/inc sounds decent, a qb with 360 comp and 200 inc would drop 130 pts

setting tds to 4 would be a 60-80 pt drop

i'd rather go after comp before yds

with last years settings the avg qb for a 10-12 man league is ~550 and the better wr/rbs were generally under 300, maybe a more modest drop like with tds is better

                  • I would really rather keep QBs where they are rather than nerfing them.

                      • Ok, so, just to be clear - we're ok with it when Jag suggests bringing QBs and other positions closer to parity in Team D, but not in IDP?

I have no problem with that, just wondering.

re: defense, the point wasn't to make defense more important per se, it was to make predictable, repeatable performance more important relative to inconsistent, burst-ish scoring. It's easier to say that a player will get x tackles on a game-to-game basis than an interception or fumble. This change would make defensive players a bit more powerful relative to other positions, but the goal was to reshuffle the importance of players within the position to emphasize the things that we as fantasy players can make decisions about.

That said, again, it was just a suggestion based on what had been discussed - personally, I don't care much about the QB change, and even less about the defensive players.

                          • I have no strong opinions. A mild nerf of qbs would be acceptable, I'm not certain TEs at flex is a good idea, I draft defensive players based on reliable tackling anyway, and I think kick returns should only be nerfed for Darren Sproles.

                            • Then that's unacceptable, as far as returns go. If someone wants to toss the dice on Sproles, toss them. Every year brings someone new.
