Funny how you were arguing how Luongo would be the clear starter before, now you're saying he wasn't expected to.

I argued he ought to be the starter. When he wasn't named the starter, most people did not expect him to start any games at all.

Brodeur is halfway to the grave. Luongo got it by default when Brodeur wasn't up to par.

IOW, Luongo dominated Brodeur and took his job.

Luongo's pretty much shattered every Canuck regular season record Yeah, there's a tremendous accomplishment. With such a storied franchise, that's quite something. The Canucks are legendary in their goaltending depth going back through the ages.

I'd have to do some digging into the season records, but at present, Calgary has the superior record for the career stuff, thanks to a certain fellow named Mike Vernon.

The point is -- who cares? If Luongo bombs this year in the playoffs I don't see the stench of failure ever dissipating from him and no one will care what a good regular season goalie he is.

He already proved his ability to steal big games by dragging the Canucks to the playoffs and winning the series against Dallas despite 3 shutouts by Dallas. Never will be topped, a playoff series where a goalie gets 3 shutouts and still loses.

He has the ability to play well but only time will tell if he actually does play well in the crucial game. The good thing for the 'nucks is that they have an excellent goalie in Schneider-- If Luongo falters I wonder will the Canucks give him a shot?

I really don't see why people are fellating Schneider and disrespecting Luongo. Luongo will be top 5 among all goalies ever in the NHL. Until he played for the Canucks, he never even got a sniff at the playoffs.

The only teams that have been able to defeat him (Ducks, Hawks), are both recent cup winners. It's not like he's been taken out by random squads.

If the first round matchup in Chicago-Vancouver, I'm taking Chicago without a second's hesitation. Probably in 6, but 4 wouldn't shock me in the slightest.

Top 5 EVER?? I am not saying it can't happen but right now he might not be in the top 5 all time just choosing from current goalies if we are going to talk about what they have done and might do--

Lets see Lundeqvist -- comparable numbers to Luongo with similar playoff results

Fleury-- already has his cup
Brodeur--undoubtedly a great--
Rinne, Price, Crawford__ all off to good starts in their careers
Miller
Thomas-- better than Luongo 2 of the last 3 years ?

All time-- Roy , Sawchuk, Hall, Parent, Dryden, Plante, Hall, Hasek, Fuhr, Smith Vezina-- Any of these guys in your top 5 all time??


I am not saying its impossible he will get there but he hasn't been a runaway Vezina winner year after year and he is 17-17 in the playoffs despite playing on a very good team (Lundeqvist is 14-16 on teams nowhere near as strong)

I think as this game shows, a Calgary/Vancouver series would've been a bad draw for Vancouver. Chicago's not any better though...

They are close, but Luongo has been consistantly better. Schneider is by no means a poor goalie, having a solid backup is why the Canucks are going to win the Jennings, for the first time in their history.

He's over 300 wins, and he's in his early thirties.. He's already ranked in the top 20 on my chart, (I have him at 18 right now).

Yep, and all are in front of him save Vezina who simply didn't have a long enough career.

I rank him about the same as Parent, Benedict and Cujo.

The only current player who is anywhere close to him is Nabokov. All the others are too young, or, as in the case of Brodeur and Osgood, too Old.
