To be clear, I do not think Cunningham belongs in the Hall of Fame nor do I think he will be in it. Had he gotten a ring with the 98 Vikings, though, he would have been in the conversation but he didn't and I don't think the sum of his career is Hall of Fame-worthy. Maybe he might get some points because of his 'effect on the development of the game' because Cunningham was an early modern Black QB and was probably the first running (not just scrambling) quarterback to ever play the game (well and be good. Bobby Douglass ran his ass off but that was because he couldn't throw for ****). That probably does count for something since he did revolutionize the position to an extent.
Still, Cunningham is in that "Hall of Very Good" category of guys just below the HoFers. Which is where I put him which started this whole spat with Ben. Cunningham was a good solid franchise QB and perennial Pro Bowler and one of the better QB's of his era but was not a HoFer... I see Cunningham in the same category as Drew Bledsoe, Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason, etc.
Interestingly enough, Bledsoe and Esiason were also 4x Pro Bowlers just like Cunningham.
But Testaverde? Kerry Collins? Those guys weren't "Hall of Very Good" level by anyone's imagination. They're average starters at the next category below that, along with the Jake Delhommes, Jake Plummers, Ron Jaworskis or whoever else of the NFL.

"I have nothing against Wilson, but he's nowhere near the same calibre of QB as Flutie. Flutie threw for 5k+ yards in the CFL." -Ben Kenobi
It's also the little things that gets me. The way he accuses me of being wrong on Randall Cunningham's rushing numbers (I'm not). Or how he says a franchise QB should have 10 3000 yard seasons but neither of his franchise QB's (Krieg and Testaverde) had more than 6 3000 yard seasons [and Cunningham had 5; 7 if you include his rushing numbers]). Or how he says,
Had 5 years over 3000 yards, which makes Delhomme superior to Cunningham.
Yet, Cunningham also had 5 3000 yard PASSING seasons. Not including rushing yardage.
And Delhomme did NOT have 5 3000 yard seasons. He had 4!
Like, I'm wondering where is he even getting his information from? Either he can not read statistics (which I think someone else here caught him on before) or he's making **** up as he goes along.

Ben, seriously, are you dyslexic? Where are you getting your numbers from? The statistics you cite are always wrong.
Where did you get that Jake Delhomme had 5 3000 yard seasons from?
What site has stats that are saying that my Cunningham numbers are wrong?

I'm siding with the players as well... they are actually proposing getting less money than under the current CBA and that's still not enough for the owners.

Im also siding with the players but hope a rookie cap is in place

Both sides want a rookie cap/salary structure. Supposedly overperformers like Chris Johnson will be compensated for outplaying their contract. Time span before full free agency is a sticking point. Players want that to be less than 5 yrs (probably 4, which seems reasonable, since the average career is less than 4 yrs); owners want to keep their chattel 5 years.

I'm not really for either one. I'm not much of a Union guy. It's not the player who puts money up, but they'll be around less time than an owner.

An NFL franchise is a license to print money. Not one of these owners got into this with any level of risk. They "put up the money" because (a) they have a sh1t-ton of it, (b) they know it will make them MORE money as long as they're not abjectly incompetent, and (c) of course, it feeds their personal ego. By the time he buys a franchise (assuming he didn't inherit it), the owner is guaranteed to be richer than god or he wouldn't be invited into the club.
The players ("labor") may be millionaire prima donnas, but they are the talent, the entertainers, the athletes. They literally risk life and limb for a career that lasts, on average, less than 4 years. There's pretty good evidence that their life expectancy will be shortened in the process.
My sympathies should be obvious.

The same thing could be said for any business, although on differing scales of money. As I said, I'm not a union guy. I also said I find both sides to be ridiculous.
I think it's the fans who should be going on strike.
