  • The whole rushing out and getting guys in the middle of games thing might be something that needs to be addressed though. Maybe waiver wire players should be off-limits from kickoff on Sunday til Tuesday morning. That way developments like injuries can be given some time to digest and for knowledge of it to spread around.

Honestly, it's hard to ever know when someone gets hurt in games outside of your market until after the game ends. I'm not sure how MRT even does it. And considering that we're all in different markets, it would make sense to not reward those who happen to be in a market in which a game in which a player was injured was broadcasted.

    • What you just said are reasons for waiver wire priority lists. Do you have the oil changed in your car by flipping it over with a forklift so that the oil can drain out through the block where you put the oil in? You're trying to figure out an alternative to the obvious.

      • I've never played in a league with a waiver wire priority list. How does it go? From worst record to best? Or is it from draft order?

I'm of the opinion that if my mid game snatching is such a big deal, then it can easily be solved by simply handcuffing one of the, if not the most important player on your team. My entire strategy this year has been predicated on the concept of picking up backups who would get decent numbers if given the chance and undervalued WRs. I dont think its fair to a person like me who is actively and intently watching as many games as possible on sunday (and I dont even have Satellite) to potentially be at the back of the line because he did a good job drafting.

From each according to his ability to each according to his need is what the waiver wire is about.

First week is draft order because obviously there is no record. I contend that it is complete BS though to assume that draft order means team strength. Ozzy was #9 and has a better record than me. Joncha took 3 top 6 QBs.

As for worst to best record, the worst teams will just hoard pickups because theyre poor managers who don't know who to play when. it also incentivizes tanking early to get waiver priority.

The only fair thing I can imagine is a weighted probabilty waiver selection process where the people who have him claimed first have a higher, but far from certain probability of picking up the player.

              • I think the default at Yahoo is that it starts with reverse draft order, but immediately after that, the way it works is that if you get the first waiver claim in one week, you go to the end of the line.

                • yup, I played a baseball league like that. But I thought that only applied to new players entering the ww for the first time (happens all the time in baseball). I think the ww was still open for players already available... The only problem I have with that is the ww should be open < 1 day before games so people can adjust to injury status and game time decisions without yahoo's delay. But thats a minor gripe, I've been playing golf sundays so I miss the day games anyway.

I agree that it shouldn't be based on record. The fairest and best system, imo, would be an initially random waiver order with a continual rolling list with a free-agent acquisition budget.

                    • We went to "first come first served" a few years back. I'm a bit hazy on exactly why, but I recall there were complaints from people who felt screwed by the process. It might have been related to the Can't Cut List. IIRC, there was a time when that list was not regularly updated and was tied to the WW process. (Yahoo now allows Can't Cut to be disabled.)

There are a number of WW setting options for custom leagues. Here's the Yahoo Rules page on waivers:

                        • we still got 2 people fighting it out for survival? that was a disaster for me, didn't make a 1st week pick in one league and got ejected about 3 weeks into the other.

                              • Looks like the identities (though not the seedings) of the championship flight of playoffs is locked in for the IDP League.

Congrats to EPW, Jaguar, Ben Kenobi and Berzerker. Barring total bizarritude, all will be 9-4 going into the final week of regular season.
