  • Why would anyone keep an injured player on their roster who is not even a consistent performer...?

OK, after toying with the idea of playing the BUF D, I've decided to go for the best available D on conventional wisdom, which in my league is the Patriots...

My other question mark is whether it is 'Best' to stay with Jahvid as my RB2, or promote Green-Ellis?

My reasoning is to stay with Best, as although he's likely going to be stopped on the run, I'm thinking he might pick up a few extra looks from passing avoiding Revis.

You have no idea how crazy our D/ST league on Apolyton is. It's 14 teams so it's really deep and my team is terrible. Kenny Britt kind of made sense if he could come back to action in 3 weeks or so (there was no timetable established at the time). I said why not? Someone even picked up Romo in this league after Guynemer dropped him. Yeah. It's that deep of a league.

Patriots make sense as they play against Cleveland.

I would start Green-Ellis. Green-Ellis has been a TD machine (I think 6 TD's in the past 5 games), the post-Moss Patriots are running the ball like the Patriots of old, and Cleveland is susceptible to a runningback like Green-Ellis. The dilemma for Cleveland is that their two best run-stoppers aren't there. MLB D'Qwell Jackson is on IR and DT Shaun Rogers has been out of the lineup pretty much all season. Rogers is expected to play this week but he just practiced for the first time in a month TODAY! The rest of the Browns linebackers (Fujita, Roth, Gocong) are more of either pass-rushers or coverage guys. Cleveland is susceptible to a big bruising back up the middle, which Green-Ellis is, but are better at containing the Danny Woodhead variety.

Or you could start the perennially banged up Jahvid Best and his bad toe who hasn't rushed for more than 78 yards in any game this season (and that was week 2!) against a defense that isn't as dominant this year but is still very solid. Now, Best has had his best games at home and he will be in Detroit this week but I doubt you will get more than his production last week against the so-so Washington D... 48 yards rushing and 31 yards receiving.

If one scores a TD and the other doesn't (note Best hasn't scored a TD since week 2) that could be the major difference between the two but overall, I think it's clear who is the better play.

      • Oh and Kevin Smith had 14 touches for 67 all-purpose yards last week for Detroit. Another knock on Jahvid Best.

Yes, I realize Danny Woodhead eats into Green-Ellis, as well, but so far, they've both been good fantasy plays despite the committee situation.

        • The parity in DST is amazing. a .500 team could be the 5th and 6th seed in the league.

I have 10,1,14,4,7 left on my schedule which I think I'll go 3-2 or 4-1 with. No way I'm winning week 10.

I'm lucky as hell to be .500 I have been scoring up around 90-120 points per week lately though. My waiver wire picks are coming through.

I feel bad for Duke o' York though... He has yet to win a game

            • Duke had that issue last year. Yet he won the Survival league.

We have total parity in IDP -- 4 teams at 5-3, 4 teams 4-4 and 4 teams 3-5.

                • We're not anywhere close to that though since we have undefeated and winless teams:

Jaguar 8-0 (maybe I can topple him this week with the might of Hart, Blount, Gettis, and Jordy Nelson )
                  Ozzy 6-2

                    • Well, technically we're a 56 team league (4x14s!)...

I see what you mean WRT Best as a pure RB, but I'm also thinking of him as a RB/WR. Best is averaging approx 5 receptions a game for 45yds, which is 7pts a game in my league. I have a feeling Best will be seeing more looks simply to avoid Revis, therefore what he'll lack in rush yards, he'll make up in is receiving game - as he has been all season so far, despite his turf toe.

Green-Ellis OTOH, just had a big game - is that a taste of things to come or just a blip? I have to admit that I am about 51/49 and Al's break down of CLE's run D is interesting...

                      • Runningbacks, even good receiving RB's, haven't done too hot against the Jets. Consider, they have yet to give up 100 yards rushing to any TEAM (not just RB), have only given up 1 rushing TD all season, and Ray Rice is the RB with the most receiving yards against them and he only managed 2 catches for 19 yards! When Moreno went up against them, he couldn't get a single catch and Kevin Faulk managed only 2 catches for 15 yards in week 2. I don't see why you think a RB with good hands can do well. Is Jahvid Best any better than Ray Rice, Knowshon Moreno, or Kevin Faulk? These Jets linebackers and safeties will shut down Best in the passing game.

                        On the other hand...

Cleveland gave up 85, 132, 113, 67, 160, 116, and 50 yards to opposing RB's. That's 4 out of 7 games they gave up over 100 yards on the ground.

Now, who were the backs that played on those bigger yardage totals and were the post successful against the Browns D? (these are the 132, 160, and 116 games)

Thomas Jones racked up 83 yards on them in week 2 (more than Jamaal Charles did)
Michael Turner had 140 yards on them
Rashard Mendenhall had 84 yards on them.

Yeah I'd say the Browns are susceptible to a nice big back who can run up the gut which is perfectly consistent with a team without D'Qwell Jackson and a banged up Shaun Rogers. Guess who's a 215lb RB in the same weight class as those guys?

                        • I think you may have convinced me. It's just that Best was my project player this year, so it'll be hard to bench him...

                            • Yeah that is a good point though. Analysis can only take you so far. In another league, I studied Jabar Gaffney versus a Revis-less Jets pass D and started him over Jeremy Maclin with the looking absolutely terrible at the time Kevin Kolb throwing to him against what had been a tough, ball-hogging Atlanta secondary... I didn't anticipate Jackson going down and Maclin getting 150 yards and 2 scores.

Any given sunday... and there's always guys who buck the trend. But odds are, Green-Ellis > Jahvid Best.

                              • Best is gonna grab the mic post game and be like "I DID IT FOR ALL THOSE FANTASY HATERS OUT THERE"

Course, If he throws 3 TDs to Calvin I have no problem with that.
