College Football '10 - Conference switching chaos!!
We'll never know anyway since they can't play 10 games or something like that to definitively answer which is the better team.

That why I like to prefer to the BCBS winner as the BCBS champion, and not the national champion. It's like march madness leads to the NCAA championship, and not a national champion.

HAVELOCK, N.C. -- Police in North Carolina are saying a Marine was accidentally shot to death when he got into an argument with a friend over the Texas-Nebraska football game.
Police say 21-year-old Johnathan Clinton Rodriguez was shot early Sunday after banter escalated with a fellow Marine at a home in Havelock, a town near the coast. Authorities say Rodriguez got into a scuffle with 23-year-old Lionel Loya, who had a gun that went off during the struggle.
Loya has been charged with involuntary manslaughter. It's unclear whether he has an attorney. He was transferred to military authorities who didn't immediately return a telephone message Monday night.
Texas beat Nebraska 13-12 on a last-second field goal to win the Big 12 championship Saturday.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

No one is asking for 10 games... just one extra game then now. Texas vs TCU and Bama vs Cincy (or whatever combination you want) and then the winners play each other. Again, a simple 4 game playoff between 4 undefeated teams. Yeah, BS can complain, with some right to, but I think most people would agree they are the lesser of the four teams. Granted, we will never know, just like in a two game play off, but it sure beats the hell out of the current BCS system. If they are going to call it the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP game instead of "Who's the best in the big conferences", they might as well do what they can to actually have a National Champion.
That doesn't determine which is the better team. Just which team can win one game.

But at least it would be determined on the field and not on paper.

And the better team doesn't always win... and then can't be the champion. We are talking about the National "CHAMPIONSHIP" Game, as labeled by the BCS... not the "BEST TEAM ON PAPER".
Why even bother playing any sports season at all using that argument then. Why not determine who looks best on paper in Baseball for example, and give them the World Series without playing the season?
Yeah, the best team doesn't always win.. But champions do.
I'd rather it be determined on paper, because if teams play one game people seem to treat it as if that is all conclusive (as in some people still think the 2007 NY Giants were a better team than the 2007 NE Patriots).

True enough... And then we will never know if Cincy was better than Bama or Texas.
You seemingly use "Champion" & "Best Team" (or "Better Than") interchangably and then seperate them when it is in your best interest.

Again, the Giants were the superbowl champions, not necessarily the best team.
And 100 years from now, the Giants will be remembered for winning not that they were the inferior team.

Plenty of folks consider both to be the same.

I whole new world... Virtual Sports... no need to ever play a game.
Who's to say that Bama was a better team than every team they beat (I might argue that since they did win them all, they probably were), and all the other perfect teams for that matter. They are where they are because the DID WIN EVERY ONE OF THEIR GAMES. Winning is what it is all about, not who is better on paper. Winning is more thn just having the best team...
I guess I'm just old school then, because I prefer that champions be crowned on the field, and not on a piece of paper.
While I don't necessarily agree with that and agree that NE was a better team, I think that it's not that way out of line to argue that. Winning does count for quite a bit. It's awfully hard to argue that my team is better after it loses. But in any case, it's all opinions and they will differ. No major championship is called "the best team", they're just called champion.

And I doubt NE fans got a lot of consolation from believing they had the better team.
