    Sorry, I meant Indiana.

Still, #4 Iowa struggled against #100 Indiana, while #6 TCU absolutely dominated #117 UNLV. There should not be very much difference between Indiana and UNLV, yet when one top ranked team struggles and another top ranked team cruises, there seems to be a disparity between the top teams.

Book it. TCU is going up, Iowa is going down in the rankings. I'd put money on it.

They won by 18 points. TCU may have won by more, but that's because they're classless bastards who run up the score late in the 4th quarter to cover the spread ().

Yes, but they were behind for much of the game. It was 21-7 Indiana at halftime. Iowa had a great 4th quarter, yes, but you can't argue that they didn't struggle.

Substitute Iowa for Texas. You guys would be DEMANDING that Texas drop in the rankings after a performance like that against a team like Indiana.

No. Beating UNLV isn't going to impress anyone.
Agreed. An impressive comeback win bears more weight than a blowout of a patsy.

Time to head downstairs to flip between the World Series and USC/Oregon. Time for the mutants to fall behind and for the evil Trojans to be crushed.

No. It's not an "impressive" comeback if it comes against a patsy.

If sucking in the first half of an eventual win is grounds for dropping a team in the polls, then I guess Texas shouldn't be in the Top Ten...

Ummm, Texas DID drop in the polls, as a result of their lackluster performance against subpar teams. Also, aren't you one of the ones arguing that Texas SHOULD HAVE dropped further?? Which is my point - that being the case, why does the same not apply to Iowa?

No. I argued that Texas wasn't as good of a team as everyone thought based on the evidence of those struggles. That doesn't mean they should have dropped in the rankings, as the rankings should be based on resume and not determinations of quality. Iowa has the best resume in the country, despite the fact that they aren't nearly as good as their undefeated record would indicate, so they deserve to be ranked highly. Same goes for Texas, although their resume isn't quite as good as Iowa's and their team isn't quite as bad.

Assuming Texas wins tonight, their resume should exceed that of Iowa's. And let's face it, everyone knows that a Texas-Iowa matchup would be a dogpile on Iowa.

And yes, quality determinations do matter. Hence the fact that unbeaten Utah was kept out of the National Title game last year, even though 1 loss Oklahoma was let in, and unbeaten Auburn was kept out a few years back.

Not necessarily. Texas' strength of schedule is significantly lower than Iowa's and I'm not sure playing Okie State will be enough to make up the difference.

                    No, we don't know that.

                    • You just said in your previous post that Texas had the better team.

OK, a dogpile was an exaggeration, but your own post admits that UT is better than Iowa.

                                That is more than fair.

Say what you will about Lloyd Carr. Michigan would not have lost against that team with Lloyd coaching; at worst, they wouldn't have gotten blown the **** out. By ****ing Illinois.
