  • Henrik for 10 and Daniel for 28, and Asher got Daniel?

Henrik for 10 is my vote for steal of the draft. that's 12.5 cents per point. Crosby went for 60 cents a point.

On the measure of cents per point measure there are lotsof players that were purchased for $1 that are even better "values".

But as snoopy would no doubt explain far better that I, the values are not based best based on points, they are best based on the expected incremental value of having that player versus other available players when considering position scarcity

So elite wingers being scarcer often went for more money that centres from whom similar results might be expected.

Also in an auction, people run out of money and later players often go for cheap.

I'm not saying sedin wasn't a good deal-- All I am saying is there are lots of considerations in an auction draft

You should've been in this league just so we could crush you. This is harebrained logic.

Centre is, by far, the deepest position in the draft. H Sedin isn't a top 10 centre, therefore he's not a big priority for acquisition -- it's why he was left to the later rounds in the draft, well after Daniel.

LW is one of the shallower positions in the draft, and D Sedin is a top 10 LW. Because the pool is more shallow, it's more important to acquire a consistent, high-scoring LW.

So even though their points are comparable in the end, D Sedin is much more valuable for two reasons:
        1) Goals are harder to come by than assists, and D Sedin is a scorer and H Sedin is an assist-heavy player
        2) LW is a much more shallow position than C

$10 for H Sedin isn't a steal. $1 for Paul Stastny, who will likely outscore H Sedin if he plays all 82 games, is a considerably better deal.

Objectively all the later-round players are "steals" because they go for $1-10, while everyone "overpays" for the elite players. But the elite players make or break teams.

              • I think there was a reasonable correspondence in auction value compared to where we drafted them in the poly draft. Most differences can be explained by one manager drafting high in the draft a player that the rest did not value as high. In the auction, its pretty obvious to state that values get pushed high only if two or more managers are interested

It appears that goalies were valued a bit less in the auction, probably because we all knew in an 8 manager auction there would be reasonable ones left once everyone had filled their spots. Ditto with d-men as there are probably still guys with 45-50 points last year on the waiver wire. High values went to the guys that could give that added production and there seemed to be an elite LW extra value out there as 4 of the top 7 were LW

I think that should be a great pickup. I thought about snatching him myself but I just couldn't see replacing either Toews or Lecavalier and four centres with two from the same team would just be dumb- your 4th centre may play half the games if you are lucky.

I do understand why you agonized though Pavelski should have good +/- and there is everyreason to think San Jose will be a high-scoring team

You have 14 players-- you can only play 10 on any given day

If you click on a date you can see which of your players have a game that day. Sometimes

                          1. You will have more players at a position with games than can play so you can make choices by dragging players to and from the bench OR

                          2. you will have empty spots so you can move players from the bench to play. With rare exceptions, YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A PLAYING PLAYER ON THE BENCH IF THERE IS ANY EMPTY SPOT AT THEIR POSITION

Bottom line for most people is that once a week they will flip through each date for the following week and move players on and off their bench to maximize player games. (it takes me about 5 minutes) There's no reason you cannot do it for longer or shorter if that fits your schedule better. (ie you could set your team for the next month HOWEVER my recollection is that if you drop or add a player, the setup for games that follow may get mucked about so check if you drop and add.

AS an example look at your roster. On Sunday Oct 4 there are no games IIRC and none of your guys play MOnday either. But on Tuesday?

Move Staal, Ryan and all your other plays that have a game upward off your bench and into the positions-- Once you have done that its also smart to fill the remaining positions with players as well since the default setting of your roster for Wednesday will be whatever you set for Tuesday. Once you have filled in all your roster spots hit "submit changes" at the bottom-- Give it a second to record your changes and then move to Wednesday-- For Wednesday you should see a full roster identical to what you set for Tuesday. Cammaleri should already be playing for you so its just a matter of moving Aucoin into a playing spot to replace one of the guys that played Tuesday

The reality of this league is that by not playing any players yet it may be hard to catch up this week but since you start fresh each and every week, it doesn't matter that much (except the Ice Hawks will jump out to the league lead ). Although if you get your goalies playing, you could beat him in a category of two on that front.

OH and I would probably follow advice you got from Asher earlier and dump one if not two defencemen (Ward and Walker as just exampled LOL. Your 4th defenceman will get in fewer games than a third centre or third left wing and there is a lot of talent left over in this league. Go to "players" and then look at 08/09 stats by position and you can pick up some great additional players. hell I see Travis Zajac or Derek Roy as good possibilities for you just at centre.

If you add a player, ther transaction is efefctive the following day. So if you wnt on yahoo today and added Zajac he would NOT appear on your roseter for today. But go to tomorrow and voila there he is- and heck he's even one of the few folks playing tomorrow.

So just go to yahoo and fool around a little in there-- its actually very easy to use

+\- is the total of ther even strength and shorthanded goals scored while a player is on the ice-- Every goal for is a plus and every goal against is a minus and they total it player by player. Its the only stat out of our 5 player stats where a player can make their stats worse by playing (therefore my comment above that you play your players whenever possible)
