That was pretty lame IMO. But I was more saddened by the loss of Mike Brown and Tait's retiring. I know he's getting 'old', but still...

I think the Bears are looking to upgrade their lines this year more than anything. I'll bet the Bears get a mediocre or untested QB and move Hanie to 2nd string.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

    • No deal in Arizona, so QB Warner will be a free agent

Kurt Warner’s agent, Mark Bartlestein, spent Thursday in Arizona trying to negotiate a deal for his client.

Unfortunately for Warner and the Cardinals, Bartlestein spent Thursday night flying back to his home in Chicago.

Despite face-to-face negotiations, the two sides couldn’t resolve their differences. Now the quarterback will become an unrestricted free agent at 12:01 a.m. ET Friday.

The two sides will continue talking, and Warner isn’t opposed to taking free-agent visits. In fact, he would. But right or wrong, there is a perception that Warner wants to remain in Arizona, which has impacted negotiations.

Now Warner will become a free agent — free to listen to offers from any team.
Interesting... Maybe Arizona knows he wants to stay and is trying to low ball him.

      • Warner played at bargain rates the past few years, so I see his point. He has shown he can prosper in the AZ system and deserves Pro Bowl money. The Cards don't want to bid against themselves, so they're gambling Warner won't get any higher offers on the open market. They've offered 2 years at $10MM; Warner wants $14-16MM per.

        • The Bears have signed an obscure OT from the Panthers, so they won't have to overpay to re-sign John "Gateway" St. Clair.

I liked Brown but he just couldn't stay healthy... I'd rather have more consistency and stop wondering whether he'll make it a month into the season without being placed on the IR or not.

God our line will be horrible this year... even more than last year

They don't exactly need defense do they.
Snyder's ego may be on par with Jerry Jones.

              • I have to say that while I'm happy to see Rex go, the media has been really mean to him today. They've put him in the 'bust' category alongside Cade McNown...

Rex was a mediocre QB who probably cost us a superbowl and a few good years, but he wasn't a total bust. He's probably a decent backup QB... just not the starter and high draft pick he was thought to be.

                • Fred Taylor to New England...interesting pick up. Lot of miles on him, but in the multi-headed RB rotation the Pats run he might be dangerous for the next couple of years...

                  • Fred Taylor on the patriots.... hmmmm. Not sure if this makes him useful in Fantasy now or not - but my bet is yes. He won't be the workhorse but that'll be good for his health, and he'll get plenty of short passes when Randy's double covered

                      • Oh, he's a bust for sure. I'm just saying that he's not the same kind of bust as Cade McNown.

While I don't know if I agree with this decision, the Redskins d-line was one of the worst in the league last year, especially in terms of sack production. Something has to be done about that. But then again, something also has to be done about the offensive line, the receiving core, and the punting and kicking situation. *sigh*

                            • Kellen Winslow dons the red and pewter for draft picks, probably either a 2/5 or 3/6.

First big splash and it didn't even require a big contract deal. And giving up draft picks this year only confirms further that we're going to be major free agency players, even if we didn't get Haynesworth.

                              • It's day one, the Redskins don't have to solve every problem on that day. The D-line been an issue for the last two years. We'll see if this fixes that. Agree that receiving, O-line, and special teams need beefing up, too. If things go as they have, some more big-time stars who are actually just over the hill will get signed, underperform and retire. In the meantime, the front office also trades away the draft choices, so no youngsters are available to train up to excellence while covered by those old timers. It's a pattern I hope they break at some point but make no bets.
