  • Cutler's the only proven NFL QB. You don't know what you'll get with the others. Maybe they'll be bona fide NFL QBs - on some team other than the Lions. On the Lions? They'll turn into busts.

Who was it? Wasn't the Cowboys.

      • Man, sports radio here is pretty much unanimous, both hosts and callers, in saying to the Bears: "Get Cutler at all costs." The typical opinion seems to be: send them a copy of the roster and our draft picks for the next couple years and tell Denver, "Take what you want, we'll take Cutler."

Hester, Orton and two #1? No problem.
Briggs, Orton, Olsen and three #1s? Sure, why not?

In fact, the prevailing opinion is that we draft like crap in the first round anyway, so give them all the first-rounders they want.

I guess people here are a little tired of Chicago not having a quality QB since the 1940s...

        • Oh, no. Sounds like a Herschel Walker mistake in the making, with the Bears in place of Vikings.

Yes, I would give them whatever they wanted. But I'm sure at the end of the day, we will read some story about just "how hard" they tried, but couldn't work out a deal.

Cutler would likely lose his edge the instant he stepped on Chicago soil.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

              • Publicly interested: NY Jets, Bears
                Publicly NOT interested: Jaguars, Vikings

Other obvious candidates: Browns, Lions, 49ers
                Also rumored: Tampa Bay, Washington

Interesting report this morning saying that Denver has "fallen in love" with someone (maybe Sanchez of USC, maybe Brady Quinn) and that's what drove this decision.

                • ESPN's suggested the Browns aren't interested (and why would they be). The Bears, however, seem to be the most logical candidate to actually be able to pull off a trade.
                  * QB to trade in return that's not total ****e
                  * 1st round pick that could take one of the top 3 QBs (possibly sanchez, more likely Freeman) if Denver prefers that route

I've seen suggested the price would be something like #1 + Orton + another pick (3rd? 4th?), which sounds a bit high to me. Cutler won't have the WRs to succeed I don't think this year without a WR drafted in the first round. But we'll see.

                  • Lions give Denver our #1 pick and our #20 pick, and they give us Culter and their #12 pick.

Denver can grab Stafford with the #1, Detroit gets a proven QB in Culter and move up 8 spots in the first round to get a good OL to protect Culter.

                    • No reason the Broncos would accept that deal... trading DOWN their first round pick? #1 isn't worth that much anymore.

                      • Denver has stated they don't want a top-5 pick, as those are very expensive when they bust. But Detroit has two other picks in the top 33, so they do have possibilities.

Hehe, that's why I don't want Detroit to keep their #1. Even with the change at the top I don't have much confidence in their drafting skills. But ok, trade away our other 1st round pick and our 2nd round one, then get a good left tackle with #1.
