You just keep cheering the Eagles. The Eagles aren't, and never have been, on our radar.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Vick to pay Falcons $6.5M
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -- Michael Vick has agreed to pay the Atlanta Falcons $6.5 million as part of his bankruptcy case, clearing the way for the team to release him before training camp, a person familiar with the settlement said Tuesday.
The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the settlement was not being announced publicly, said the payment would go toward settling a bankruptcy claim by the team for salary paid to Vick while he was missing the last two seasons.
Vick pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges and is in the final months of a nearly two-year sentence. He was once the NFL's highest-paid player, signing a $130 million, 10-year deal with the Falcons in December 2004.
The settlement was reached ahead of Vick's bankruptcy hearing in Virginia on Thursday. It does not affect the Falcons' claim involving bonuses already paid to the quarterback.
An arbitrator ruled the team was owed $20 million, a federal judge reduced the award to $3.75 million and the team has appealed to the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. A ruling is expected in June.
Once that issue is resolved, Vick is likely to be released by the Falcons. The team has pursued trade talks, but there appears to be little interest by the Falcons in the player who became the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.
He was due to receive a base salary of $9 million and a bonus of $6.43 million in 2009. The remainder of the contract was worth at least $45.11 million.
Vick hopes to resume his career with another team. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said he will review quarterback's indefinite suspension after he is released from prison.
While Vick is still technically part of the team, the Falcons moved on a year ago when they drafted Matt Ryan with the No. 3 overall pick. He had a stellar debut season, leading Atlanta to an 11-5 record and an unexpected spot in the playoffs while earning The Associated Press offensive rookie of the year award.
The team had no comment on the settlement, though everyone in the organization looks forward to dealing with no more questions about Vick.

Still waiting to hear on the Bears and Pace (or, possibly, a certain LT from Buffalo...) Add a competent second tackle and we could afford to draft a top possession WR and/or a LB (we are interviewing several 1st-round quality LBs) and go WR in the 2nd, and be looking mighty good...<Reverend> IRC is just multiplayer notepad.

Stafford wows at private workout
By Tony Pauline, Special to SI.com, TFYDraft.com
The Detroit Lions brain trust headed south today to hold a private on-campus workout with Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Matt Stafford. The results were encouraging for Stafford and the Lions, who own the first pick in April's draft.
Sources described Stafford's workout as flawless, stating it was significantly better than his March 19 pro-day workout, also held at Georgia.
Stafford used his former Georgia teammates as primary pass catchers. Bulldog receivers Mohamed Massaquoi, Kenneth Harris, Demiko Goodman and tight end Tripp Chandler took part in the workout, but that is where the similarities to Stafford's college days ended.
The Lions coaching staff put Stafford through a workout that included an assortment of passes and routes he will be required to complete in the NFL and which will be part of the Detroit offense in 2009.
The draft's top quarterback was on point with all his throws throughout the session. He threw just about 40 passes and hit on all but three of them. Stafford fired the ball downfield, hitting receivers in stride, and threw accurately through the entire session.
Detroit coaches did speak with Stafford about aiming his passes, which negatively affected his accuracy, yet that seemed to be the only glitch all morning.
Overall, the Detroit brass were very complimentary about Stafford's work today. The Lions praised his overall passing mechanics and the way he threw the ball.
The draft is still more than three weeks away, but Stafford's workout today was so impressive that observers in Athens got the impression it was a "done deal" and the Lions will use the first pick to acquire Stafford.
Mark Sanchez and the USC Trojans hold their pro-day tomorrow in Los Angeles.

Looks like the deck is about to be shuffled...
Broncos to begin discussions on trading Cutler
Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen released a statement Tuesday, March 31: "Numerous attempts to contact Jay Cutler in the last 10 days, both by head coach Josh McDaniels and myself, have been unsuccessful. A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos. We will begin discussions with other teams in an effort to accommodate his request to be traded."Last edited by -Jrabbit; March 31, 2009, 23:37.Apolyton's Grim Reaper 2008, 2010 & 2011

Culter, Stafford or Sanchez... if a deal could be done, which would be the better option?
Would Denver take the 20th overall pick for Culter?Captain of Team Apolyton - ISDG 2012

I'd take Stafford. I've been talking about him since he was in high school.Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.
