  • Pavlyuchenko is okay in that he knows how to receive and handle those long balls, but he missed a lot of scoring opportunities. Jesus Christ! In the previous matches he missed a ****load of chances as well. Luckily Arshavin played today. There's no denying: that fella is going to be one of the top players of the world in a few years.

Russia was good? I really don't think so.

Holland played a bad game for sure, but the russians really did not impress me.

And what was up with the ref withholding the second yellow card for Kovalev (or whatever his name) in the 90th minute? That was a really cheap move

In all: a pity the Dutch didn't advance to the next phase, and I think it's van Basten to blame, who tried to put the Dutch team into the position of underdog (at least in the Dutch press) while he should have played from the strength that was showed in the first three games. No pressure on the Russians

Oh, and the fans in the stadium Did anybody hear the Dutch? If you go to a game, cheer for your team, don't wait untill they are ahead in the game
You can't be serious. Russia played a great game. Russia had an awful lot of scoring chances today. Holland was powerless today, despite having played very well in the first three matches.

It's a cliché, but in a big tournament, the team that plays really well in the opening games never wins the tournament. It's usually teams like Italy, playing like a bunch of old grannies, that end up with the cup.

He scored 3 goals, so far (but still 1 goal behind the current leader).
Who would have guessed that he could make a serious competition for a top scorer?

Yep. That's how it goes for us: create as more chances as possible and sonner or later you'll score.
Some can say such approach sucks, but I say - that works. It is so Russian.

never, ever did I think I'd post this, but all my Russian friends in my mobile address book can testify multiple congratulatory sms'es. What a GAME! What amazing PROGRESS, quality-wise, from group games!

Eurovision, hockey, basketball last year, now football - this needs to stop, lest they get drunk, uppity and ride tanks all the way to the Bay of Biscay

                      • They should get rid of penalty kicks in elimination rounds of tournaments.

Horrible way to decide elimination games.

                        ACK!

Do you want to return to coin draw? Or they could introduce a real duel, with pistols, adjuntants, etc.

Imagine an extended overtime in this match of an offensively little potent Italy with its concrete defense.

                              • Instead of PKs they should do alternating corner kicks. Ball is in play until cleared of Penalty Box.

                                Make it exciting at least.
