Yes, but only with 5 goals, which was like an all-time low. Podolski was then still very inexperienced but still scored thrice (his first three international goals), putting him in (shared) second place. Since then he's been the star of the national team, outshining Klose by a nautical mile.

Why on earth Löw replaced him with Gomez for a while was beyond me (well, I guess I know why, I just don't understand it: Podolski sucked in the Bundesliga for München while Gomez was the hero of the season, but Podolski continued to kick arse on the national side).

Forget the 2:0 with Israel, I think you played much worse in the final game vs. Andorra even though you won. That was painful to watch.
