    Before anything else: Austria-Croatia 1-2

    Group winner: Germany

Group C is the most obvious: the Netherlands suck balls right now and would be lucky to get ANY points (especially with both Robben and Van Persie injured)

Hmmm, the rules say you have to submit your group winner predictions before the start of the opening match of the tournament, which means your prediction for Germany comes too late.

That said, if (and only if) there aren't any objections from the others, I wouldn't mind amending the rule to opening match of the respective group. After all, the more people participate in this the better, and I can imagine there's not too much incentive to still sign up now if you can't get any points from the groups anymore, as that's where 1/3 of the total points come from. With that change, latecomers like Wena still miss a lot of potential points from the Group A, champion and top scorer predictions but aren't completely out of the running yet. Of course, that would mean the rest can still update their predictions for groups C and D as well if they want.

        Objections, anyone?

I wouldn't object to that. I would also not object to allowing them to predict an overall winner and top scorer from a team that hasn't yet played a match (just to get more people to sign up).

Hmmm, while I'd love to create more incentive for people to still join, I'm not so sure about that one. The group winner change affects everyone equally: anyone can still update their predictions for group winners of groups C and D to take into account the latest injury reports and maybe discussion in this thread. However, if we allow latecomers to still predict the champion and top scorer, Werna can't fall for a potential pitfall of predicting Czech Republic or Croatia as champion, but germanos wouldn't be able to get rid of his prediction for Baros as top scorer and if Solver or Ecthy felt Portugal wasn't as strong as they expected they can't update their predictions either. So such a change doesn't affect everyone equally.

If your idea gets support from others and no one objects I'm willing to allow for that, but if you're the only one who feels that way I'm inclined to not go quite so far.

Werna, we're predicting runners-up for the groups as well. You're now too late for group B of course, but you may want to supply them for group C and D still.

Edit: and in case we end up agreeing with Victor's proposal you may want to make a prediction for champion and top scorer as well (just bearing in mind that Group A, Croatia and Austria are out of the running for you) -- we can figure out if they count later.

Ooh, you're right. Hadn't considered those problems.

I wouldn't have bet on Austria at any rate. (Although we would have deserved a draw today, IMO)

                              Runner up, group C: Romania
                              Runner up, group D: Sweden

                              Champion: Germany
                              Top scorer: Klose

                              • I'm happy with anybody to join, and I think it's a fair amendment to the rules for predicting the group winner as Locutus proposed.

As for overall champion and topscorer: As there are 10 points to earn there, perhaps we can deduct 1 point for every match already played? (so in the case of Wernezuma he could only get 8 points max)

                                Anyway, welcome to Wernezuma

edit: Hell, we could even deduct a point per game played for the groups winners as well.
