  • Gah, damn Löw I only had Klose down for top scorer because Podolski seemed to have lost his starting spot to Mendez, now Löw is playing both -- and of course it doesn't take more than 20 mins for Podolski to score his first of no doubt many... Oh well, as most people copycatted me at least I won't lose points over it

    • I wondered why so many chose Klose.

btw, having looked at the spreadsheet I'm sure you're hoping that no-one scores 10 in a game. Still, a reasonably safe assumption to make, seeing as Luxembourg aren't the hosts.

      • I am glad that I was the only one who correctly judged Croatian correct score... and it is soooo typically us... it is incredible, but this team at least wins those type of games, while in the past 5-6 years we would have drawn them...

three points after about one hour of nerve wrecking disoriented play, but I did not expect it too be too different...

now against the Germans I expect a lot better and a win to qualify... for that we will have to play a LOT better, as we are capable, but we also typically play a lot better against good teams - it's in the genes... 4 years ago 1:1 against Brazil and than 1:1 against Malta next... I am sure noone else can do the same.

We would have deserved it. Our team had **** in their pants in the first minutes but after that Croatia was mostly harmless.

I had originally thought Podolski would score more than Klose. Still, they aren't near the top of my list. After Ronaldo, my picks for top scorer would be Torres, Del Piero and Toni, Germans would be only maybe after tha.

Hmmm, good point. That never crossed my mind actually If it does happen I can adjust the formulas on a case-by-case basis I suppose, though it's not exactly a shining example of elegant design...

+ you would have deserved it based on play, but luckily for us a bit too weak up front

The simplest solution would presumably be to have two goal columns, one for each team, thereby alleviating the need to parse a result string.

Del Piero isn't a starter either (or shouldn't be, now I'm not so sure anymore ) and Torres is Spanish so he'll be out after 3 games. Ronaldo and Toni are good candidates but they're by no means better than Podolski, or Klose if Podolski weren't a starter.

You're a bit weak up front yourselves without the mighty Eduardo.

but if you remember we did the same against you ... 2:0 to 2:2 without a reason for first, and an excellent pass from Beckham... however when you came back we continued to play and scored again... this (and the fact we managed to "not play" for 60 minutes and not concede) still gives me hope we can do something... with Germany we will have to show what we can do - no more excuses.

"Forrest Gump" Olic and the goalkeeper were good, central defenders - OK, the left/right back - dreadful as well as midfield... huh... but I know they can do a lot better + this is our typical mentality and we won in the end, so there is hope

I deliberately avoided that because I considered it ugly -- if it wasn't for that little oversight this is a far more elegant solution IMO. Now I have to revise that of course.

If I'd start from scratch (not gonna fix it now) I guess I could still maintain it by having separate hidden columns that store the number of digits of the result and that default to 1, but the elegance is rapidly fading there...
