  • NFL - Are You Ready For Some Football?!! - Post SuperBowl

    Continued from:

And now we get the game that will give us the question to the answer of the Great Question of the Life, Universe, and Everything... or something.

And a game I could really care nothing about. Oh well, I hope the commercials are fun. One one side the team I've traditionally hated (The Giants), and on the other the team I've recently loathed for their uber-ly obnoxious fanbase. Put it to you this way, I'd rather root for the Cowboys over any of these two.

    Most boring Superbowl ever.

At least the east coast folks will be happy.

Why boring? it's a classic underdog story.

SD really blew that game. If Rivers wasn't injured, things might have been different.
        Tomlinson was the key.

3-1 and Turner couldn't get it done on the outside, a run that's Tomlinson's bread and butter.

Tomlinson plays, we would see two of the FGs into TDs, and the Bolts would have been running in the 4th.

Still, this is who we had out, or very badly injured.

        1. Tomlinson, played 2 snaps
        2. Rivers, played the whole game injured. 3 picks, no TDs.
        3. Gates, top reception target, best TE in football.
        4. Jamal Williams, our NT and best run stopper.

I was impressed by two things.

First, how much San Diego's secondary has improved. We were the only team to stop their passing offense on a regular basis all year. Brady was held in check, Moss, Welker had the one TD, Stallworth wasn't a factor. That's why Faulk played such a big role. He saved Brady a number of times and came up huge.

For the longest time our pass d has been the weakest part of the team.

I was disappointed that Rivers couldn't step up. I was disappointed by the playcalling in the redzone. 4 FG's says it all. We convert 3/4 and we win the game 24-21. 2 of them, we have a tie game.

I was disappointed in Turner. This was supposed to be his big opportunity to step up and show what he was made of, it didn't happen.

For all the talk of the blowout, it came down to a third and 11 with 7:30 to go and a questionable spot that gave the Patriots new life. After that they just gave up, you could see their whole defense say "that's enough boys". It was hard to watch but they did so well all game.

We'll be back next year, and hopefully we won't have the catastrophic injuries we had here. I ask you, does NE advance without Brady, Maroney and Moss on offense?

          Week 16 rinse repeat.

After SD lost I had a bet that NYG would win just to make sure that the two biggest tv markets would get the SB.

Glad to see my intuition was spot on.

What Ben said, and we have to hear about New York and New England six ****ing months a year during baseball season... and now this?!

            God Damn It!!

And Ben, tough luck. If Tomlinson was able to play, you guys would have won.

I was amused when Belichick pulled out the three TE set.

Tells you everything you needed to know about the game right there.

They are beatable. They had to pull out all the stops on offense and scored 21 points against us. They turned away from the passing game for the first time all season.

Last year they didn't have to dig that deep. It was enough to run the 5 wideouts spread offense, nobody in the backfield.

Seems like a good matchup to me. Of course, I'm not much of a football fan. The week 16 game was a good game. NY-BOS (of course, only those of us in that area give a rats ass about that). Manning the lesser's transformation. Pats going for history. As Superbowls go, this one sounds pretty good to me.

Fox should be pleased with the match up they got for the Super Bowl.

But once New England won, they probably didn't really care who won the second game. While New York is the largest TV market, a Packers/New England match up wouldn't have been all that bad either.

With New England going for perfection, it should be one of the higher rated SB's in a long time.

Out of curiosity, was he really that hurt? I kept getting the feeling that it was a week's work of a misinformation campaign more than an actual injury. If he was though, he did an outstanding job.

Well, I think you have to give an assist to the weather, but SD did do a great job in coverage.

Sproles was just a better matchup, particularly after Norv realized he could get big chunks of yards passing. I wouldn't read too much about Turner into that game.

Given the talk about the injury, and the fact that several times he threw lame ducks (like the 2nd INT) that were far short of his intent, I'd say he was that hurt... when you can't properly plant the back foot, you have a very hard time throwing the ball hard.

I thought it was obvious he was injured. Especially the game before NE when he was limping about.

He has a torn ACL according to Jay Posner. He'll be in surgery and basically risked his playing career to play Sunday.

I know you are a pats fanboy, but I'm shocked you didn't notice how injured he was on the field.

He's no LT and our red zone offense showed the truth yesterday. We rely on Tomlinson to score touchdowns and we suffered getting stuffed on the 7, 6, and the 4. Tomlinson there I doubt we get stuffed all three times.

That NE had to go to actually make an adjustment before they could completely dominate on offense and run a 9+ minute drive to end the game?
The adjustment they made speaks volumes. Nantz and Simms weren't lost on the significance of the Pats trying to run it on the Chargers.

How often have they had to do that all year? Have they ever pulled out a 3 TE set to close it out? No one has pushed Brady that hard all year.

Don't get me wrong, I knew he wasn't completely right, but he played well enough that I figured the ACL rumors were just rumors and the MCL wasn't as bad as reported.

The Pats like that formation and used it at the beginning of the year, but then injuries to their TE kept them from going back to it for most of the season. They even faked it for a while, bringing in extra linemen as TE and running Evans and Eckel to end games. It was generally successful all year...I think the only big thing was how much more successful it was than passing in this particular game.
